Just days before the disaster, someone had already filmed the border hydropower construction sites: nonstop blasting, rock crushers roaring away, tunnels forcibly carved into cliffs, with virtually no safety measures and environmental protection nowhere in sight. Projects like Rasuwagadhi and Upper Trishuli 3A that were washed away—all backed by Chinese capital or Chinese companies. The State government official line is that it was a glacier collapse blocking the river and then bursting. They lie without even drafting a script! The entire river valley has been turned into a construction zone—blasting, digging, and diverting the riverbed—amplifying the risks. Tibet has planned over a hundred hydropower dams, and the Jilong border crossing is being bulldozed right into glacier and seismic zones. Power sent east, water discharged south. Chinese student in New Zealand, Rita Jing (抖音 R!TA Jing), posted a video on 13 August 2026 while studying at a language school. In the video she says: “Many classmates here introduce themselves by only saying they are from Taiwan or from Hong Kong. Every time I hear this I feel speechless. Let me make it clear here: Hong Kong is a special administrative region of China. Taiwan is an inseparable part of China. There is no separate Taiwan or separate Hong Kong. The correct way is always Chinese Hong Kong, Chinese Taiwan.” Three days later (16 August), she posted another video in which she is visibly distressed, wiping tears and speaking with a shaking voice. She says the previous video caused her to receive a large volume of threatening private messages and thousands of critical comments on Instagram. She states she is “really scared,” does not want to be isolated as the only mainland Chinese student in her class, does not want to “become Mina,” and repeatedly asks people to stop scolding her. The same clip shows her packing clothes in her room. However, Subsequent reporting and her own later posts indicate she had also been trying to obtain a longer Australian student visa in order to remain overseas longer. That application was refused, and with her New Zealand visa approaching expiry she prepared to return to Shanghai. She really really doesn’t want to go back to China.

On 11 Sept, Hangzhou court sentenced “Iron Head” Dong Guangming to 8 years and a ¥130,000 fine for 寻衅滋事 and extortion. Five co-defendants got 9 months to 13 years. Judges called the crew an “evil-force” outfit that used fake “anti-counterfeit” livestreams to squeeze money. Dong is the same man who, in May 2024, climbed a Yasukuni stone pillar, urinated on it, sprayed “TOILET,” filmed it, posted it, and fled back to China the next day. Japanese police issued a warrant. He never faced a Japanese court. A Chinese court did — and used the catch-all charge Beijing reserves for people who make trouble. He performed nationalism abroad. He got processed as a thug at home.

China Airlines Flight Delayed More Than Two Hours After Female Passenger Reportedly Demands Business-Class Upgrade. China Airlines flight CI521 was scheduled to depart Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) for Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) at 2:10 p.m. on August 31. However, the flight was delayed for more than two hours after a female passenger reportedly became distressed and shouted in the cabin, demanding to be moved to business class. According to complaint from passengers on the same flight, boarding had already been completed and the aircraft had taxied around the runway and was preparing for takeoff when the woman allegedly became emotionally distressed and began shouting. The passenger reportedly said she was experiencing a panic attack and asked to see a doctor to determine whether she was fit to fly. She also allegedly asked whether she could pay to upgrade to business class. With no doctor on board, the cabin crew attempted to calm her and reportedly suggested that she leave the aircraft and rest until she felt better before continuing her journey. However, passengers said the woman became increasingly emotional and allegedly claimed that China Airlines was forcing her off the plane. Some passengers on board reportedly spoke up in support of the crew, saying the staff had been trying to handle the situation calmly. The incident resulted in a lengthy delay. Ground staff had to locate and remove the passenger’s luggage from the cargo hold before the aircraft could depart. The remaining passengers were left waiting on board as the situation was resolved. The aircraft eventually closed its doors and departed at around 4 p.m., more than two hours after its scheduled departure time. The incident left many passengers frustrated, particularly as the unexpected delay could affect connecting flights, business appointments and holiday plans. While passenger safety and wellbeing must take priority, the incident also highlighted how a single unexpected situation on board can affect an entire flight.
