This feels like the texturing version of spinning around my model. Playing with carve groups in Marmoset to get grey metalness values through intermediate oxidation.

So here's the thing. Are there shading errors present in the bake? A little. Would you have ever noticed if you had never seen the untextured version? Highly doubtful. Is it laziness? Kind of, but it's more about focusing on the final product and not wasting time.

Anyone else have any esoteric requests? (I even turned on cavity shading to emphasize any artifacts)

Alright, stop. BEVEL TIME. The bevel shader can be used with creases too! You can get all the advantages of high poly subdiv without needing to use support loops and still use the bevel shader in one time-saving package. Let's hammer out the details with @Marmosetco Toolbag

Here's another tip for painting in . You can split the viewport and use different cameras if you want to paint around a model without rotating your view 🎨

NURBS curves (b-splines) are still my favorite spline type. You'll almost always get natural-looking curves out of them. Bezier curves can be useful, but are also really annoying to edit and harder to make the curves look natural.

In blender, the NURBS curve object might look strange at first, but you just have to keep in mind that you need to extrude a point beyond where you want the curve to end.

I remember there was some guy a while back who told me the ngons on this support weren't going to bake well. Right... about that.

I love combining depth of field with canted/Dutch angles when framing shots. Makes details feel otherworldly. Plus fresh perspectives keeps it visually interesting.

Did you know Marmoset has a sticker projection mode that wraps decals to the geometry? Great for getting stamps and other details to go around corners seamlessly.

Got this part assembled in the project, but there seems to be some alignment issues to sort out. Probably due to the original scan being slightly rotated. Getting there little by little though.

PSA: The presence of an ngon does not, by itself, create bad shading. Additionally, if you can't see a shading issue in a representative environment, ie, in the final game asset, in-engine (or the final shot in film), it's not a shading "issue". Hint: There is no issue here.

You can also use the Gradient layer type in Toolbag to make planar knurling like for this pistol grip panel 😎 Adding a sync point above the layer lets you use the effect with smart mats and generators as well.
