An interesting little detail I noticed on my second viewing of Backrooms (2026) - when Mary first walks into Clark's store, the camera angle makes it look like the Captain Clark statue is watching her, which sort of serves as a sign of things to come considering she gets chased by Captain Clark later on in the film when she's inside the Backrooms

In Backrooms (2026), there's this small moment where Phil, an ASYNC employee is just sitting at home watching TV when a commercial for Clark's furniture store comes on and catches him off guard He'd already seen Clark walk into the Backrooms through ASYNC's CCTV footage. He also knew that whatever entity had been killing ASYNC employees inside, including Naren in the opening found footage - was wearing a pirate costume. And now he sees Clark on his TV, dressed as a pirate, advertising his furniture store. It's the film confirming that ASYNC already knew there was something in a pirate costume killing their people and now Phil knows exactly where that costume came from

The tension building up to the reveal of Pirate Clark was just perfect - the redhead suddenly bolting, Clark and Mary looking around confused, the sound of those footsteps getting closer with that eerie music underneath it. And then the actual shot composition during his entry and the conversation with Clark leading right up to him devouring Clark. Everything about this scene was amazing

Mary finds the same room later on, only this time the cardboard cutout is gone, the door is blocked off with a bunch of furniture stacked up against it and the camera is completely ripped out #backrooms #backroomsmovie

ASYNC planted these prehistoric caveman-shaped cutouts as a trap system. The looping human voices are meant to bait the Still Life entities roaming the maze into approaching and destroying the cutouts, which then triggers a gas outbreak designed to knock them out for research. Clark doesn't get lured as an entity though, he stumbles into one of these traps by accident, mistaking the voices for actual humans somewhere in the maze. The choice of audio is the most interesting part though. ASYNC could've used anything to bait these things, but they specifically picked a record that was made to communicate with alien life in outer space. That's not a coincidence. It's the film's way of saying ASYNC sees whatever is living in the Backrooms as something so far beyond human understanding that the only reference point they had was how we'd try to talk to something from another planet
