Musician John Cale, founding member of the Velvet Underground, met musician Lou Reed and began working with him in 1965. They formed a band called the Primitives and then the Falling Spikes. When Sterling Morrison and drummer Angus MacLise joined them they formed the Warlocks, which later became the Velvet Underground. MacLise later quit the band and was replaced with Maureen Tucker. Andy Warhol attended the Velvets' first concert and became their manager throughout 1966 and 1967. He added Nico to the group, produced their first album, "The Velvet Underground and Nico" in 1967, and booked concerts for them in many cities around the US. In 1968 Cale left the group to embark on a solo career. He also produced many albums for a range of musicians and created music tracks for movies including "Heat" (1972), a Warhol/Morrissey film. This "Screen Test" of Cale from 1966 includes zooming in and out and cuts to shots with the camera tilted left and right. Maureen “Moe” Tucker was one of the first female rock-and-roll instrumentalists. In 1965, she joined the Velvet Underground, replacing Angus MacLise on drums, and worked with Lou Reed, John Cale, Sterling Morrison and Nico. After leaving the group, she married and had five children. In addition to producing her own albums, she has collaborated with some of the Velvets on their solo albums and participated in a Velvet Underground reunion tour in 1993. In this "Screen Test", Tucker is lit from the right and frequently smiles and grins when looking towards the camera.
