Here's another defender that really impressed me on defense in limited snaps (just 9 according to PFF). #98 Chiddi Obiazor had at least two pursuit plays like this one. His 6'6" length is going to be a problem whether you attack his side or run away from him.

Agree... to disagree. Look, I get what Klieman is saying about reducing risk and doing it in a more strategic manner rather than just QB run every other down, but those legs are still the most talented and unique wrinkle that Avery/K-State possess against any defense in America. Klieman even references the strength & conditioning Avery put in this offseason to better prepare his body to withstand the rigors of the run game. There was a purpose behind that, right? Finally, as I know @KFlahertyKCSN would attest to, one of the special traits about Avery as a runner from seeing him back in high school (and even still today) is this innate knack he has to NOT take the worst of a hit. So, yes, there's always the gamble that someone goes low or makes a dirty play but I'd trust Avery as a "safe" runner 9 times out of 10. They HAVE to let him be the all-around weapon that he is more than they've shown this season and even last. Especially without Edwards in the mix. Nobody is asking for Collin Klein between the tackles, just sprinkle in a few more designed calls and let the wheels burn.

Had a chance to watch new K-State commitment Cooper Ohnmacht last fall in a huge, road win at Hays. Went back and revisited our postgame interview from that night and two things caught my attention now... 🤝 Cooper only singled out two coaches as staffers he enjoyed connecting most with: Taylor Braet & Greg Svarczkopf. At the time they were on opposite sides, but now they work in tandem. Have to figure that combo was enormous for this K-State victory. 🌻 Not only does he have the family connection to K-State, but he reiterated several times (in different ways) the importance of being "home". Kansas kids valuing Kansas isn't a must for everyone (to each their own), but when it does happen pure and organically it's refreshing.
