🇪🇹 Underestimated: What the Prime Minister's Revelation Tells Us About Abiy Ahmed Today the Prime Minister told the House of Peoples' Representatives that his own ministers had been under classified, intelligence-backed surveillance over the past year. The statement was striking, and it showed how this leader works. Two things define Abiy Ahmed: he understands technology, and he comes from intelligence. He served in military intelligence and communications, led an intelligence team during the Ethio-Eritrean war, and later helped build the country's cyber-security institution before entering politics. He learned how information is gathered, protected and used long before he became a politician. That is why many of his opponents misread him. They treat him as an ordinary politician and argue against the public figure, while he operates with the instincts of an intelligence officer. He is often several steps ahead, and he rarely shows his full hand. This is also why I compare him with Vladimir Putin. The comparison is about background, not ideology. Both rose from the intelligence world, and both lead the way that world teaches: patiently, quietly, and with a firm grip on information. Whatever one thinks of Putin, those who underestimated him paid for it. The same mistake is being made about Abiy. To the critics who oppose him without understanding him: you cannot beat a man you have not studied. Study his history, his methods and his habits before you challenge him. The central point stands. Abiy Ahmed is a technologist and an intelligence man, and he is far more formidable than his opponents admit.
