I've been disconnected from the world for 24 hours because I think my energy and focus has to be on the match - I will get back on it now. We knew that with Willy out we had an injury in the back line - with Jurrien not fit, we're in big trouble, so we had to use Ezri, and today Mosquera - he could not continue. That image when the players were on the floor totally gutted. "It was a really difficult one to take and we used that to bring energy, to bring more conviction and belief to understand the difficulty of the challenge that we had ahead, especially against a team that was so successful last year and then they lost a few days ago in a really big way. "You expect a reaction and this stadium is a really difficult one, one for the big matches and they make those moments count. Today when we had to suffer, we did suffer and when we had to be really dominant, we were. So I'm really pleased."

🗣️ Mikel Arteta on whether he has spoken to other managers or the Premier League about potentially changing the rule: “Yeah, but I think more than asking anybody else, the question has to be to the players. “What do they want? “If they raise their hands and say, ‘No, I prefer to stay at home and not travel,’ I think we have an issue, because then they don’t love what they do, which is matchday. “I’m sure that if you ask the players, everybody would like to be part of the squad on matchday because that’s the way that they can fulfil themselves. “Otherwise, you have to tell somebody, ‘You are not even part of this matchday,’ and that’s really, really tough. “It doesn’t help anybody. “It doesn’t help the club. It doesn’t help the valuation of the player. It doesn’t help the player feel part of something. “In my opinion, it’s a real issue that has a really, really simple solution.”

Mikel Arteta on how he handles transfer speculation with his players: "Very simple. Whatever you read, if you have a question, come and knock on my door and I will tell you whether it is true or not. If we put now the catalogue on all these walls about all the players that we wanted in the last three months, I think we need the whole building to put it on. So I think they know that there's so much speculation with a lot of players. "If ever they feel the doubt of what we think of them and if we're going to recruit a player, I tell them straight away. Normally I do it - so, 'we're going to sign somebody in their position', and normally tell them that these are the plans and these are the reasons why we have the plans. 'We still believe the same in you, but the competition is going to increase.' I prefer to do it that way."

He’s a really important player for us.” 🗣️ on his importance and being left out towards the end of last season: “Without a doubt, he was one of the best players for Arsenal last season. Without him, we would never have got into the position that we got into in the last few weeks, and he deserves massive credit. “Certainly credit from all of us, all the coaches, myself, and especially his teammates. We know that without him, we would never have reached the level and competed in the way that we did throughout ten months. “At the end, yeah, he didn’t play that much. He still played some important minutes, but he didn’t play that much. But no one can neglect the importance of what he did and how important he is for us. “I think it’s important to comment on that because a lot of people end with the last taste, no? ‘But this player played the Champions League final...’ “Yeah, yeah, because this guy did it for ten months. Otherwise, we wouldn’t be here and we wouldn’t be playing in those finals. He knew perfectly where they were coming from, and he is an extremely honest and straightforward guy. “He’s so demanding of himself that sometimes it can even be too much. But he knows that, and he knew that we were going to add and increase the quality of the squad because it has to happen in every position. “We cannot do what we did and then, when we get to the last stage of the season, he has already played 55 games. We cannot have that again at this level. And he recognises that. “Now it’s going to be: ‘Okay, how am I going to raise my level to be able to do what I did last year, but for 11 months?’ “That’s it.”

But you need to face it with real honesty and transparency because when you are on the other side, that's exactly what you need. "You might not like what you've been told, but if it's truthful, if it's the reality, if it's honest and it's going to help you to make better decisions and have more clarity for the next steps in your career, you have to do that. "These are always very difficult conversations, but they need to be done. It's like when a player doesn't feel that he belongs or he's important, he wants to have a different chapter, I think that communication has to exist and it has to be both ways. "We all know, everything has a start and has an end. When it comes to the end, I think our duty, our responsibility is to do it in the best possible way, maintaining the respect and admiration for the player and the relationship, but understanding that at the end, we need to make football decisions."
