🗣️ Mikel Arteta on Viktor Gyokeres' importance to Arsenal: "I love Kai, I love Viktor a lot. He has a very different character to Kai, but he's someone that you really feel close to. "He's a very important player for the team, and he will have his chance. Then he needs to prove his point, like we all do."

Mikel Arteta on Martín Zubimendi's lack of opportunities: "Yeah, well, he had a few, then he had the injury, and it's true that he had one game where he was almost fully available to play some minutes, not to start the game. And from now, he needs to earn the right to play. "I need to find the right games to give them the opportunity, and I know when I do that what his response is going to be. But he's been exceptional, whatever the role that he had to assume, and I expect that from every player, and he's a player that deserves more minutes at the moment."

🗣️ Mikel Arteta on the tactical challenges facing a 16-year-old "This is not Arsenal. This is the level at every club. "Unless, and I don't want to mention a club, you have three guys in the team score over 100 goals, and then you can put one or two there, and okay, they can evolve, and the nature of the games will develop them. "Here it's different, and the margins are much smaller, and he needs to be able to do that by understanding where he is as well, you know? "And he's someone that really wants to learn, and he really wants to do it. He just needs to have it, and a habit takes some time to do it. "But certainly this is important. What we cannot take is the talent, the freedom, and the capacity that he has to do the things that are not on that piece of paper and the ones that you haven't described, because he is unique at doing that." 🗣️ On how rare Dowman's achievements are at 16: "Tell me how many 16-year-olds have played in the last 100 years at this level. It's simple. "So there isn't. None. Zero. There isn't a single player. So that's it. That's why he's unique."Otherwise he would be one of some. It isn't. He's not a case, another case like this." When Wayne Rooney was mentioned: "At 16? Probably a lot more, yeah, but anyway. But every three days, I'm playing Champions League, I'm playing... it wasn't. So that's the level." 🗣️ On young players emerging in other countries: "Yeah, there are, and hopefully there are more as well, and make sure that the age as well. We don't stop them, especially when they have that kind of talent."

Mikel Arteta on his touchline moment with Eberechi Eze: "I think that stays between him and I. He knows why I did it, and that's it. Ebs [Eze], when he's like this and grumpy, I don't think we're gonna get the best out of him. When he's laughing, he's himself, he can express, I think that's, we're gonna find the best Version of him. That's it." Then asked: "Last season you spoke about understanding him more. Was that a moment where you felt, okay, you understand what he needed?" "I think it's crucial that we do that. At least we are open to that, because the more we connect with our players and we know how they are feeling, and you can create that emotional connection between the coaches, or whether it's the staff, or between players, obviously even more ideal. "I think that's where the best version of yourself comes, and then you feel understood and listened and important, and I think that's crucial to get, performances."

🗣️ Mikel Arteta speaking in Italian on the risk of defending one-v-one against Højlund: "There is a risk, but it also means that if they have one free player in defence, we have an extra player somewhere else on the pitch. "Against a low block like that, we have to take that risk. We have defenders who can deal with that situation. "It’s true that there were two situations today where we had a little bit of luck, but this is a risk that we take because we want to be dominant, and without doing that, it’s not easy."

Mikel Arteta reflects on the 2-2 draw with Bayern: "I would take the draw. That doesn't mean that we are very happy about it because we prepared and came here to win the game. You could see that right from the beginning, the mindset, the purpose and the intentions that the team had to be very dominant, to come here and cause problems to Bayern, to press them, to attack them. And that's certainly what we've done. "I think we were the better team the first 20, 25 minutes, scored the goal. Unfortunately, we got the injury of Bukayo, which was a big setback. Ebs comes in and the team remains in the same way, but the margins are so small. You get something wrong after the corner, we just miss a pair, and in 2 passes they are in front of goal. In another one, you miss the shape in the throw-in and Harry Kane can put the ball 30 metres on the floor between a space that doesn't exist. And that's the level. "And after that, 2 teams that want to press each other, that want to attack, that constantly are very, very alive to hurt the opponent. And yeah, we went down. The team showed an incredible composure, spirit to keep going, to attack them. The finishers came in and made an impact as well. And after scoring the goal, you see the reaction of the team. We wanted to take the ball and go and attack them again to come and win the game. "And I think that tells a lot about the team, especially looking back in the last 2 or 3 years, all the teams that they have come here, the manner that they've been battered. So I know the opponent that we have played, the players and the coach. That's where I think I have to give a big credit to our team and our players."

Mikel Arteta on Viktor Gyökeres: "These are moments in a player's career, or in a season, I would say. And we are trying to help him as much as possible. The other day, I think he had some very good moments. "He's 3 or 4 times in front of goal with no keeper, and the ball should arrive to him and it doesn't. And then maybe you're talking about something else, but these are the strikers. It's very small margins, scoring or not scoring changes the narrative, for sure, not the perception of how much he can help the team."

Mikel Arteta on whether the schedule caused Bukayo Saka's injury: "I don't know. Against Lille, he didn't start the game, then he started the game at the weekend and he was very early in the game. I don't know, the level of intensity these games required as well, it's something incredible. "You could see last night the PSG-Barcelona game, what happened. I mean, this is man-to-man, 96 minutes, every action. There's no breathing. The stress, the quality, the attention, the level that you need, it's unbelievable. It's the highest level, and those things happen. Unfortunately, it doesn't look good at all, but we have to wait and see."

Arteta asked about Eberechi Eze having started only two games this season and not coming off the bench at the weekend, and whether he wants more from him: "Like everybody else, I think they need to earn their rights to play, and that's through training sessions. And when you are on that pitch, to make the impact that the game and the team needs in order to achieve that. And he's going to have many opportunities to do that. His attitude has been always phenomenal, and we have to adapt as well to his qualities."

🗣️ Mikel Arteta on Mikel Merino and Viktor Gyökeres performing well internationally: "Well, the first reaction is, 'What am I doing? They don't do this!' Or, 'I haven't given them the opportunity to do this.' That's a natural one, you know. "And then you obviously are really happy. "I was talking to Mikel the day before he played his last game. I said, 'Mikel, do you remember before you came to us, I think you used to score one goal every 13 games for the national team? Since you've been here, you score one in every 93 minutes.' "And then he scored two the next evening, so this number is even down. "I'm very happy that they are able to help their national teams. I haven't done it, but it should be one of the best feelings to represent your country and do it in such a way."

Mikel Arteta on his reasons for substituting Eze at half-time: "Because I wanted something else. We needed a different kind of profile in that left-hand side and I'm here to make decisions. And 3 days ago he played, he scored a goal, he could have scored 2 or 3 against Lille. He had some really good moments and today it was different because the game and what the game required was different and we were in time to change it and that's what happens."

Mikel Arteta on who steps up with Bukayo Saka out: "Well, really impressed with all of them. I think Ebs [Eze] had a great game, the impact, not only the goal but the actions, his overall performance. I think his commitment without the ball as well. "And when the other ones come in, I think they really contributed to lift, first of all, the energy, and then to bring different tools that the team needed in that moment to get something out of the game. So very pleased again." 🎙️ Alex Howell

Serge Gnabry on his memories of Mikel Arteta as a teammate: "I mean, back at the time, I didn't speak to him about if he's going to become a coach or not, but he was for sure a great leader in our team back then. I think he was a captain that season when we played together. "What I remember is that he helped me, especially Hector [Bellerin], who was a Spanish mate in that sense, but us young players, he helped us out, talked to us, so would always have an open ear for us, which shows what kind of a person he is. "And obviously that he led the team to such a success, probably in the beginning wasn't, how do you say it, nobody could see it, but yeah, he proved himself and done a fantastic job."

🗣️ Mikel Arteta on Eze's impact: "We knew that he could create an action. He created three actions that he put people almost looking at the goalkeeper one-against-one, but as well I have to trust him. "When they make the rotation, especially on the right-hand side, and Cash’s goal last year he lost him, we conceded the goal - and this year, I think he learned a lesson because every time something was happening he was at it, and I think he helped the team in a great way."

Mikel Arteta on Viktor Gyökeres's confidence: "That's a very personal question. I think what he transmits is an incredible will and determination and work rate to improve and help the team. That's it. And that's Viktor every single day, regardless of his position, whether he scores a goal or not. And that's why he's always an option to play."

Mikel Arteta on whether he prefers opponents who attack, like Bayern: "But that will depend as well, you know, and every team is going to prepare the game to understand what is the best way to beat us, that's for sure, like we do with the opponent. "And yeah, if the game changes after 10 minutes when you have an open chance, maybe the next 80 minutes are different because the context of the game and the results has a huge impact on how the teams behave. "And as I said, always is we need to be prepared to win in any context, and on top of that, to be as good as possible, as enjoyable as possible in every context. And that's our job."

🗣️ Mikel Arteta believes Kai Havertz is the type of striker that can score 25-30 goals per season: "Yes, I think he has the ability to be a top-class striker. Yes, I think he has it.' "That's why he's playing there as well, and that's why we signed him. "I think he has it, and he needs that volume of games and action. "If you give him that, I'm a BIG believer that, yes, he can do it."
