The Moken are genetically isolated from their Burmese and Thai neighbours and have unique adaptions allowing them to see better underwater. They have deep roots in the Austronesian homelands of South China, but are now genetically closer to the Burmese. Most interesting to me are the images of the spirits they worship called Labong, which remind me of European god poles among the Balts, Slavs and Germanics.
