A day on the fireline with a dozer operator, where fire meets steel. Ride along with us as we cut fireline in sagebrush on last year’s Striker Fire near Boise, Idaho. Building fireline with a 60,000-pound machine means navigating lava fields, avoiding buried pipelines, and protecting sensitive ecosystems, all while supporting suppression operations. Dozers are heavy equipment adapted for wildland firefighting. Varying in size and maneuverability, they are highly effective at constructing fireline across terrain ranging from sagebrush to steep, mountainous landscapes.

From initial attack to extended operations, these crews adapt to changing conditions and work together to get the job done. It’s challenging work, but it comes with a strong sense of purpose to protect communities, public lands, and the landscapes we all depend on. #InternationalFirefightersDay
