BIG news arriving from above. Our first U.S. Wildland Fire Service contracted Large Airtanker is officially in service, strengthening our aviation capability and providing another powerful tool to support firefighters who are working tirelessly on the ground. This C-130 airtanker carries up to 4,000 gallons of fire retardant, increasing our ability to deliver greater volumes of retardant and provide critical aerial support during wildfire response. Known for its versatility and ability to operate from shorter runways, the C-130 can reach demanding environments and support wildfire response where it’s needed most. As part of the national interagency effort, this aircraft bolsters the extensive firefighting fleet, helping us respond more swiftly and effectively to emerging fires. And this is just the beginning, this aircraft is the first in a series of Large Airtankers joining the U.S. Wildland Fire Service fleet. A day on the fireline with a dozer operator, where fire meets steel. Ride along with us as we cut fireline in sagebrush on last year’s Striker Fire near Boise, Idaho. Building fireline with a 60,000-pound machine means navigating lava fields, avoiding buried pipelines, and protecting sensitive ecosystems, all while supporting suppression operations. Dozers are heavy equipment adapted for wildland firefighting. Varying in size and maneuverability, they are highly effective at constructing fireline across terrain ranging from sagebrush to steep, mountainous landscapes.
