Umpire Jeremie Rehak made the worst call of the day -- a strike to Xander Bogaerts that missed low by 4.11 inches. Bogaerts immediately tapped his helmet, but Rehak refused to grant the challenge. The next pitch, Rehak ejected Padres manager Craig Stammen and infield coach Ryan Goins after Stammen considered challenging the call at 2nd.

In a tie game in the 9th, umpire John Bacon called a strike to Rob Refsnyder that missed outside by 2.71 inches. Then, he tried to call him out on a pitch that missed by 5.97 inches. This was the largest miss on a called strikeout this season. Refsnyder challenged and the call was overturned. A few pitches later, he hit a home run to give the Mariners the 3-2 lead they won by.

Umpire Alan Porter initially failed to recognize a Pirates challenge request. When pitching coach, Bill Murphy, complained, Porter pointed at Murphy, shouted, "get the fuck out of here", and ejected him. The next pitch, manager Don Kelly complained about a check swing call and Porter ejected him, too.
