All of the Christian communities in Nigeria’s Middle Belt that are deserted have been kept desolate by the Islamists using this very tactic. They attack and kill as many as they can. They do not occupy the communities immediately, but leave behind their scouts (usually younger and harmless looking herders). These scouts update the Islamist fighters of any activities suspected to be attempts by the Christians to return home. The videos here are from communities in Apa, Benue State in 2024. A group of women who got tired of the deplorable circumstances of living in IDP camps attempted to go home to get some food. It took the a lot of bravery from volunteers and the military to reach them from behind enemy line.

Bello Matawalle is all about sympathy for the Islamist militia and no word for the victims. Yet we keep asking for list of sponsors of terrorism while they are actually occupying sensitive positions in our security architecture. For a state Minister of Defense to be this openly sympathetic to terrorists, himself, Badaru and the NSA must all not only be sacked but thoroughly investigated and jailed for complicity.

Bello Matawalle is all about sympathy for the Islamist militia and no word for the victims.
