"I was floating outside of my body. I could see myself laying in the bed." @makailee had a near-death experience that broke their entire worldview of science. Then came Maria, a woman who left her body during her own NDE, floated above the hospital, and saw a blue shoe on the ceiling. She told the nurse when she came back. The nurse went up to check. The shoe was there. Then Dr Eben Alexander, the Harvard neurosurgeon who wrote Proof of Heaven. Seven days in a coma. His brain scans showed no way he should have had consciousness. He did anyway. Every one of them uses the same words. Love. Peace. Link:

"I would be much more scared to be surrounded by mostly atheists." Christian frameworks built Western civilisation. The American South still runs on them. Most of modern America doesn't. Joe Lonsdale read a lot of history as a kid, so he knows what the world looked like before the West got it right. Much nastier... Scarier. Poorer. More savage. The veneer of civilisation is much thinner than people realise.

"There is no symmetry when it comes to expressions of violence from the political left." Right-wing violence draws prolonged lectures. Left-wing violence gets explained away. Noah Rothman points to the reaction after Luigi Mangione allegedly shot UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in the back. AOC, Chris Murphy, Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren all called it wrong, then reminded everyone how angry people are at healthcare. Selective outrage isn't principle. It's strategy.

Has the West been a victim of its own success? Joe Lonsdale, Palantir co-founder, founder of the University of Austin, runs one of Silicon Valley's top tech investment firms, and he thinks the answer is yes. But not in the way most people mean it. His read: the institutions that built the West got captured by people who told everyone what they were going to do. Marxists, socialists, the Long March. 60 years of patience. Nobody with a job was willing to call it. "I'm just going to say what I think is true. I'm willing to debate facts and learn to be wrong. But I'm not willing to not offend you with the truth, because the truth is too important." Full conversation:

"The American right is far more violent than the American left." That claim gets repeated so often it's treated as settled fact. It isn't. The databases used to support it count gang violence, prison violence and family violence as political violence. Noah Rothman went looking for the evidence himself. Graffiti on a church becomes right-wing violence. A homeless man assaulting a hotel worker becomes right-wing violence. It's the same trick as the "70 school shootings" statistic: technically true, completely misleading. The numbers aren't lying. The definitions are doing all the work.
