On this #AfricaDay, we commemorate the 62nd anniversary of the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), now the African Union (AU), established on May 25, 1963. The 2025 AU Theme of the Year, “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations,” underscores our collective pursuit of justice, dignity, and healing. This theme aims to develop a Common African Position on Reparations, establish an African Reparatory Programme of Action, and strengthen collaboration with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the global African diaspora through a Joint Mechanism on Reparations . These efforts are crucial in ensuring that Africans and people of African descent receive justice in tangible and transformative ways . #YearofReparations

The 48th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union will take place on 11–12 February 2026, followed by the Assembly of Heads of State and Government on 13–14 February 2026. Opening statements at the Executive Council will be delivered by: 1. H.E Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission 2. H.E Gedion Timothewos, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia 3. Claver Gatete, Executive Secretary of UNECA 4. H.E Téte António, Chairperson of the Executive Council and Angola Minister of Foreign Affairs. The G20–Africa High-Level Dialogue at the African Union Headquarters advanced Africa’s priorities on debt sustainability, financial reform, and the cost of capital. The Dialogue’s key messages will feed into the Johannesburg Declaration and strengthen Africa’s collective advocacy within the #G20Africa. South Africa expressed deep appreciation for the AU and its Member States for their support throughout the G20 Presidency. Hosting the Dialogue at the AU HQ underscored the continent’s unity and shared vision in shaping global financial governance.

This poem reminds us of who we are a continent that is bold in vision, rich in culture, and unstoppable in ambition. First performed at Expo 2020 Dubai during the African Union’s cultural showcase, the poem continues to resonate as a timeless celebration of Africa’s pride, power, and shared purpose. Following the successful conclusion of our recent Summit, we're pleased to announce some key decisions: Upcoming Meetings Schedule: • 50th PRC Session: 9-20 June 2025 (Addis Ababa) • 47th Executive Council: 10-11 July 2025 (Malabo) • 7th Mid-Year Coordination Meeting: 13 July 2025 (Malabo) The AU summit also endorsed the Extraordinary Session of the Assembly on Ending AIDS by 2030, and Addressing Preventable Maternal Deaths, Communicable, and Non-Communicable Diseases Endemic to the Continent, and Strengthening Health Systems by 2030.

Today, the halls of the AU Headquarters were buzzing with excitement as we welcomed a bright group of young students for a special guided visit. During their tour, they learned about the AU’s mandate and the goals and aspirations of #Agenda2063. Their curiosity, thoughtful questions, and boundless energy reminded us that Africa’s next generation is already thinking boldly about the continent’s future. Through guided tours, the Information and Communication Directorate brings the AU closer to its citizens.
