JD Vance says in his interview with Hannity that “the very best” security guarantee for Ukraine is to give the United States “economic upside” via the “minerals deal.” He argued economic investment offers better security than military aid. Here are the issues with this. The “minerals deal” won’t lead to security guarantees or additional assistance from the U.S. Trump has said this many times and Putin would not accept these terms. This is something Ukraine must accept. In addition, this theory that if American companies are going to be mining natural resources on Ukrainian land, Putin won’t attack is also a fantasy. There will be no mining operations because there will be no investment capital to fund these operations. I am an investment professional. I work with Sovereign Wealth Funds and other large institutional investors in private markets investments. They traditionally would be the investors in natural resource and infrastructure development. None will invest in Ukraine until a lasting peace is established. Any thing short would be a breach of their fiduciary duties. Ukraine can ask some of the European allies or Canada that have Sovereign Wealth Funds if what I am telling you is true. The U.S. also doesn’t have a history of using its military to protect companies operating in war zones. They will instead tell them to leave. Ukraine already gave up its nukes for security assistance from the U.S. with the goal of protecting its 1991 borders and the U.S. never honored that. Now the U.S. wants Ukraine’s to give up its sovereign wealth for a hope and a prayer? I really hope Ukraine does not make the mistake and sign a minerals deal with no explicit security guarantees or additional aid. This would be a tragedy. It would be a tragedy.

MARRIED WOMEN DESERVE EQUAL VOTING RIGHTS The SAVE Act makes it more difficult and expensive for tens of millions of married women who changed their name to cast their vote. The SAVE Act will require these women to obtain a passport to vote, which costs them $1,500 in today’s dollars over their voting lifetime. The SAVE Act is about proof of citizenship not voter ID. There have been only 68 cases of non-citizens voting in the past 40 years. Non-citizens voting is not an issue. This is all about voter suppression in this case against women, especially women who are Republicans because they are more likely to change their names when they marry.
