Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, the governor of Benue State, is a suspended Catholic priest. Bishop John Cardinal Onaiyekan has spoken about Governor Alia’s suspension, explaining that he failed to meet the conditions set by the Catholic Church before entering politics. According to the bishop, the Catholic Church has specific rules that priests must comply with before they can enter partisan politics.
