Very common. I’ve seen whole carriages where every single window is smashed. British transport police basically don’t exist anymore. If you want more people to use trains this stuff should anger you.

The account that posted this on Instagram said the police were called. They proceeded to give a police reference number and….not turn up. In large parts of the country the police simply no longer exist. It’s not just resources. It’s personnel.

Axel Rudakubana, the Southport murderer, took a knife into school more than 10 times. He was found, by two police officers, with a knife on the bus (nothing happened). He even called childline telling them he wanted to kill people. He was referred to PREVENT. Three times. Nothing happened. Then he went on a killing spree. People can talk about ‘culture’, ‘identity’ and all the rest of it. But that seems to miss something quite basic: this is what happens when the state effectively lets young men run around with knives, without consequences. And what were the consequences for PREVENT? Because it clearly doesn’t work.

Yesterday I was taken aback by the amount of litter around bits of Gorton & Denton. Worse than where I live, or London, but part of a national story. Since 2020, in particular, it feels like this stuff is rampant. One local had briefly lived in Angola. Says it’s worse here!
