This is one of the all time great late night tv performances. It catapulted Future Islands to "overnight success". It's also a lesson in: - meeting your moment - putting in the work - & fully committing By the time of that performance, Future Islands had played over 700 shows. They'd been a band for 8 years! “It’s taken me six years to come to terms with Letterman. People saw us as this overnight success but I didn’t want to be seen that way. We were ready for that moment.” 1. Your big moment may only come once. When it arrives, meet it with full abandon. 2. There are no overnight successes. Success is a lagging indicator, the result of all the work you've done up to that point. Most people only see the result, not the years of work & grind. 3. Know who you are & fully commit. In a world of a million fakes, copycats & soundalikes, the value of true humanity - true originality - true unbridled authentic joyful individuality will always cut through. And when it does, that success will last. This is what overnight success looks like. "I'll take all of that you got!"
