Shop owners who accepted payments via Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm from customers are now facing scrutiny from the Commercial Tax Department. They have been issued notices demanding payment of lakhs in pending taxes. Those failing to comply are being warned of account blocks and interest penalties. Shops like condiments, bakeries, beedi shops, tea & coffee stalls have started receiving such notices from the Commercial Tax Department over the past week.
