On Wednesday, 16 September 2026 at approximately 16:20, a 41-year-old male was fatally shot at the intersection of Parklands and Cawood Streets in Esther Park. The suspects fled the scene in a blue VW Jetta 5 sedan. A case of murder was opened at Sebenza SAPS for further investigation. Upon verification, the getaway vehicle was found to be linked to two other cases of hijacking and murder. Following credible information received, a joint intelligence-driven operation was activated comprising the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Northern Region Task Team, SAPS Crime Intelligence, and Blue Hawk Tactical. Within 24 hours of the incident, the team worked tirelessly to track and intercept the suspects. One suspect was apprehended in the Spartan area, while two other suspects were arrested at Enhlanzeni Hostel, together with the vehicle used in the commission of the crime. One suspect led officers to a house at Allandale Farm in Mayibuye, where a Beretta pistol with a filed-off serial number and 17 rounds of live ammunition, believed to have been used in the murder, was recovered. The three suspects have been detained and will face charges of possession of a suspected hijacked motor vehicle, murder, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The Chief of Police, Mr. IJ Mapiyeye, has commended the officers for their swift response, dedication, and collaborative effort that led to the arrests. The City of Ekurhuleni wishes to send a clear and stern warning to all perpetrators of crime: Ekurhuleni is not a haven for criminal activity. Law enforcement agencies are on the ground, working around the clock to root out these senseless and heinous crimes committed in the City. Those responsible will face the full might of the law.

SANParks has launched an investigation to trace and identify a man seen in viral social media footage allegedly engaging in dangerous and unlawful driving inside the Kruger National Park. They described the incident as deeply concerning and condemned the driver’s actions as reckless, irresponsible and a serious violation of conservation laws. According to SANParks, the footage shows the individual illegally crossing rivers with a vehicle, driving on roads that had officially been closed, and operating the vehicle recklessly within the protected area. Authorities said the conduct displayed a blatant disregard for public safety, environmental protection measures, conservation regulations and the authority of park management. SANParks stressed that national parks are protected under strict environmental legislation, including the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) and the National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act (NEMPAA). These laws prohibit activities that could damage ecosystems, threaten biodiversity, endanger wildlife or compromise visitor safety. The organisation warned that violations could result in criminal charges, substantial fines, imprisonment, civil claims for damages and administrative sanctions. The agency highlighted that driving through rivers and ignoring road closures can severely damage sensitive ecosystems and infrastructure, while also putting both humans and animals at risk. Road closures in the park are often implemented for critical safety reasons, including flooding, poor road conditions and wildlife movement. According to reports, a heavily armed criminal syndicate intercepted an armoured cash vehicle, using high-calibre firearms and explosives to breach the vehicle before escaping with an undisclosed amount of cash. SPPSA said the use of military-grade weapons, explosives and gunfire in public areas demonstrates an alarming disregard for human life and the rule of law. A multidisciplinary police task team has been activated to track down those responsible and bring them to justice. SPPSA said CIT robberies are facing widespread condemnation from law-enforcement agencies, security regulators and government officials amid growing concerns about increasingly sophisticated and violent tactics used by criminal syndicates. SPPSA also warned members of the public not to gather at CIT crime scenes to collect scattered cash, stressing that doing so amounts to theft and puts lives at serious risk because of possible unexploded explosives and the dangers associated with an active crime scene. The association further welcomed the arrest of a community member who allegedly went to the scene and stole a rifle left at the crime scene. The suspect is expected to face the full force of the law. BREAKING NEWS: Police are searching for Colonel Ismail Dawood. His lawyer’s assured police he will hand himself over and he did not. Gauteng anti corruption unit pounced on Dawood’s townhouse complex in Sandhurst JHB- he was not home. They’ve now launched a search. He is being wanted on a charge of extortion amounting to over R350 000. A warrant of arrest was issued earlier. Colonel Dawood is a senior South African Police Service (SAPS) Crime Intelligence officer. He has been arrested for extortion believed to about R350 000. Dawood has earned a reputation for leading several high-profile kidnapping investigations and rescue operations, helping secure the release of numerous victims and arresting suspected kidnappers. At the same time, Dawood is a controversial police officer. Over the years, he has faced multiple allegations and investigations relating to his conduct in various operations, including claims of kidnapping, assault, torture, extortion, corruption and murder. He has been linked to a judicial inquest into the 2010 death of Solomon “Solly” Nengwane while in police custody and has also been investigated by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) over other incidents, including a 2022 hostage rescue operation in which two women were shot. Dawood has consistently denied all allegations against him. More recently, Dawood and KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi were the subject of an internal SAPS disciplinary process after allegations of kidnapping, extortion and corruption were made by suspected Mozambican kidnapping kingpin Esmael Nangy. This cannot be allowed to continue. The violence, burning and looting in the Durban CBD is unacceptable. Those responsible for violence, destruction and criminality must be identified and held accountable. Organisers and instigators of unlawful activity must also face the consequences. Police need to act decisively, within the law, to protect residents, workers, businesses and property. Protest is a constitutional right -but burning, looting, intimidation and violence are not. How do we allow businesses to be looted and property to be burned while law-abiding people are left to fear for their safety? We need urgent action, accountability and the restoration of order.
