Why doesn't the left think Britain is the greatest invention ever? 👑Hobbles the power of kings, ends absolute rule 💡Invents liberalism, exports it to the world ⚖️Champions Parliamentary democracy, exports it to the world ⛓️💥First nation to abolish slavery at great national cost; uses military to enforce ban around the world when literally everybody else wants to keep their slaves. 🇧🇪Enters First World War on the moral point of defending 'plucky little Belgium'. Goes from richest country in the world to bankrupt as just one cost of doing so. 🇵🇱Enters Second World War on the moral point of protecting Poland; liberates the Jews. Impoverishes itself and takes itself out of ranks of great powers to do so. This literally becomes the founding myth of the left. 🇬🇧Gives up empire without defeat in war and almost uniquely bloodlessly in history¹. 🇺🇳British statesmen champion the UN, the EU, and intentional law. ☪️Britain goes to war to defend Muslims from genocide in Kosovo ⛓️💥Britain engages in a series of wars based on the left wing instinct to defeat dictators and free period from oppressive regimes. The wars are disastrous, but we did it for you, left wing progressives. Response of the modern left "BRITAIN IS A UNIQUELY EVIL COUNTRY AND MUST REPENT!" Wrong! Britain is imperfect, but it is the most free, most welcoming, most moral, most liberal-coded, greatest country in the history of the world. Rejoice that you were born here and give thanks every day. Now watch this video of Spitfires set to stirring music as they defeat LITERAL NAZIS.

The problem with SW1 Blob/Establishment-endorsed podcasts, media, political talkingheads is that they are *never* held accountable for misinformation or slander. In the attached video, Rory Stewart on the The Rest Is Politics accuses Dominic Cummings of "bullshitting" (is that a synonym for lying?) and creating "conspiracies" when the latter wrote that big shots in the UAE were increasingly concerned about sending their kids to study in Yookay for fear they would return radicalised Islamists. Yet today, some months later, news has emerged that the UAE is cutting the funding available to send young people to study in the UK due to the threat that they will become radicalised by Islamists while they are here. In other words, Mr Cummings was right all along. He had been talking to people in the know and was relaying their sentiments faithfully. Will the mainstream media and even some politicians criticise The Rest of Politics, Mr Stewart and ALASTAIR CAMPBELL for using a platform with huge reach and tremendous influence to slander Mr Cummings and spread misinformation? Will this be used as an example of why the wild west, deregulated podcast space is dangerous? No and no, obviously. Will Mr Stewart apologise? Perhaps, because I do still think he is well intentioned (despite the fact it infuriates my followers when I say this). But there is a wider, and I think more important, point here. And that is why Mr Stewart jumped to the conclusion that Mr Cummings was lying and why Mr Campbell laughed along, because it explains much that it's happening in this country. Neither man had any evidence that contradicted what Mr Cummings was saying—or they would have presented it. I suspect strongly, though, that they assumed that Mr Cummings was "bullshitting" based on the confluence of two factors. First, in their milieu, 'everybody knows that there has never been a better time to live in this country, that we the world's greatest example of multiculturalism and integration, and therefore that any stories of decline and talk of problems with radical Islam are just two separate but related Rightwing Moral Panics.' Secondly, the vast majority of SW1 view Mr Cummings as a crack—and an irritating and (for some) dangerous one at that. They see his ideas as not brilliant (or at least interestingly stimulating) diagnoses and solutions to Britain's problems, but as ideas to be mocked. Put that view of Britain and integration together with the view of Cummings and you have the assumption that he would be "bullshitting" when he said that wealthy citizens of the UAE were so concerned with Islamism in Britain that they wouldn't send their kids to study here. But note the confidence in Mr Stewart and Mr Campbell. They knew they were right. And knew it was a great chance for a gotcha. And this problem goes farther than the simple slander of Dominic Cummings. This combination of conceit, hubris—of monstrous superciliousness—with incuriousness, parochialism and intellectual mediocrity is driving the country to the pits. You can see it in policies of paramount importance, but as wide ranging as energy, welfare, Ukraine, economic policy, foreign affairs, and immigration, where the hugely confident assumptions of intellectually mediocre people who have spent too long patting each other on the backs at Islington dinner parties, international conferences in Swiss ski resorts, and Manhattan charity auctions lead consistently to disastrous policies. Nothing will improve until they go.

This 10-mimute, mini-documentary, 'Ten Truths about Food and Farming', is fascinating. So many things I hadn't considered--like the high cost of cheap food. It also crystallised some things I've thought for a while, such as farming's role in national resilience. Must watch.

For the last two or three months, Western foreign policy commentators here and in the legacy media have been whooping and cheering for Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries. Yet Ukraine has, reports say, secretly asked Europe for several billion euros to buy gas needed to replace that destroyed in Russian retaliation for those attacks. Now, I guess, that retaliation is expanding to further attacks on energy infrastructure (see reposted tweet from Ivan Katchanovski). On the Ukraine war, the Western commentariat are like those buffoons from Four Lions, cheering their mate running across fields with a carrier bag full of dynamite.
