How Black Muslims prepare to slaughter their own African brothers and sisters over Islam. Arabs are culturally a warlike people; it is rooted in their traditions. I am not sure who in their right mind would want to import an ideology from a warlike people who have never known peace throughout their history. There is no beautiful ideology from the Gulf states for Africans to import. Why this fascination with importing foreign ideologies? Why can’t we look from within our own histories, cultures, and traditions instead?

I understand why so many of you Somalis defend the Arabs. You’ll carry their names, imitate their dress like a badge of honour, believing it will make you’ll more acceptable to the Arabian eyes. You turn your faces toward their deserts five times a day seeking prayer and salvation. In your genealogies you even claim they fathered you’ll lineage—that some Arab married the daughter of Samaale and thereby became the source of your existence. What I cannot understand is the selective blindness that follows. Why do you avert your eyes when the same Arabs in Saudi and Yemen treat your Somali kin’s and other African bodies with open contempt, when they police your skin, your features, and your presence as if you remain perpetual outsiders in the very Ummah you have chosen to believe exists? Why defend the architecture of cultural submission while ignoring the daily evidence of racial rejection inside the Ummah you have chosen to call home?

Imagine being dark-skinned in Egypt, standing in the land of your ancestors, only to have some Arabs tell you that you are not native and must be from Sudan. That kind of identity policing is wild, especially when Arabs themselves are not indigenous to Egypt or the rest of Africa. What makes it worse is that these same racist lighter-skinned Arab Egyptians will question the origins of dark-skinned Egyptians, then turn around and claim direct descent from the ancient Egyptians. If people want to say “modern Egyptians descend from ancient Egyptians,” they need to be more specific and honest about the ethnic lineages. Egypt was not untouched by foreign settlement or conquest. Persians, Greeks/Macedonians under the Ptolemies, Romans/Byzantines, Arabs, Kurds under the Ayyubids, Mamluk military slaves, and Ottoman Turks all ruled, settled, or left their population in Egypt at different points. So dark-skinned Egyptians alone should never be treated as foreigners in a land that has always been deeply connected to Africa and the Nile Valley. The hypocrisy is the problem: some Arabs want to claim ancient Egypt when it gives them prestige, but reject dark-skinned Egyptians when their appearance does not fit the image they prefer to be advertised for their country.

I still don’t understand your logic: Me pointing out the documented racial hatred Arabs have historically and currently held toward Black people somehow turns me into an “delusional Afrocentric.” I started highlighting this deep hatred they have for blacks only after realizing that the average Black sheikh or religious leader in Africa is too psychologically captured — too afraid of losing status, belonging, and the borrowed Arab pedigree — to name the racism of the very people whose ancestors they revere and whose names they adopt. In this video, Arabs put on blackface and openly mock the way their ancestors chained Black men, women, and children and drove them across the desert to be sold in Mecca. When the evidence is this naked, how exactly am I the delusional one for refusing to look away? Whatever relationship Somalis maintain with Arabs holds little interest for me. Somali men, like the majority of Black African men, present as a spiritually conquered people — chronically attaching themselves to the belief system of whichever group currently holds power. I have observed a recurring pattern across the Black races: we adopt the beliefs of the dominant force of the era. First it was Islam when Muslim power was ascendant; later it became Christianity when Christian power replaced it. The deeper question is why Black men so readily abandon indigenous spiritual ground and climb aboard the cosmology of whoever is on top. The only Black nation that appears never to have undergone this spiritual conquest is the Dogon.

Finally wrapped up my short fantasy-adventure film inspired by the Kingdom of Benin and the Edo people of present-day Nigeria—one of my favorite African civilizations to study and creatively explore. I tried to keep the clothing and cultural elements grounded in Edo traditions while blending them with fantasy and science fiction. I’m much more interested in imaginative adaptations than strict historical reenactments because fantasy, adventure, and sci-fi allow us to explore African cultures in limitless new ways. Edo culture has so much potential for world-building, character design, architecture, mythology, technology, and storytelling. It is genuinely one of the most fascinating cultures to experiment with creatively. For my next short film, I’m focusing heavily on Ashanti culture. In the future, I would also love to explore Dahomey, Munhumutapa, and many other African kingdoms and civilizations through fantasy, adventure, and science fiction. I’m completely obsessed with sci-fi and would love to continue creating stories that use African societies and civilizations as the foundation for entirely new worlds. I would love to hear your opinions: which African civilization would you like to see me explore next?

I know some Black people in the diaspora might say, “They all look Black to me,” but that ignores the visible social and ethnic distinctions in Mauritania. The women dancing appear visibly African in their facial features and skin tone, while many of the Beidane being entertained are lighter-skinned, with some darker-skinned individuals reflecting Berber ancestry and centuries of mixing with Hassaniya Arab-speaking groups. The self-proclaimed Wolof Senegambian nationalist would rather claim the Beidane, also known as the “White Moors,” as his cousins than acknowledge the Haratine, who are more closely related by blood to many Senegambian peoples as their cousins. Could this explain why Senegambians remain so quiet about the treatment of Black Africans in Mauritania by these Arab-Berber mixed communities, who they prefer to be their cousins!! Is it me or do Senegambians have this weird obsession with this lighter-skinned mixed race Maghreb’s then they do with black Maghreb’s who they share genetic relations to?
