"I don’t know where to start with my five children.” In this video, we spoke to Namawejje Esther, the widow of Ronald Kizito Jjuuko about the struggle left behind after her husband, 38, was shot dead at Ndejje-Kanaaba by PC Allan Ogwal. She is unemployed. Kizito was the family’s sole breadwinner. She is now struggling to feed and keep their five children in school. And the state has not come out to support her or the children left behind. Uganda Police Force have acknowledged that the force used was “wrong” and “not proportionate”. But where is the accountability? Was Ogwal charged? If detained, what is the legal basis for holding him beyond 48 hours? If released, when and on what terms? #JusticeForKizito

We spoke to residents and eyewitnesses in Ndejje-Kanaaba about the killing of 38-year-old Ronald Kizito Jjuuko, a father of five, who was shot dead by a police officer during National Cleaning Day on August 29, 2026. Uganda Police Force initially said Jjuuko was shot after he attempted to “force his way” through a restricted area on his motorcycle. But a resident told us Jjuuko was shot in the back at about 6:50am, before the official cleaning exercise had begun, as he rode home nearby after coming from work, and that there was no confrontation. #JusticeForJjuuku

On August 30, former Kampala Lord Mayor and People's Front for Freedom - PFF Executive Chairman Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago was transferred from Murchison Bay Prison after his health seriously deteriorated. The PFF announced that Lukwago had been urgently taken from the prison to a medical facility. A family member later told AGORA that he had been transferred to the Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC) clinic for treatment. The emergency follows months of documented concerns about Lukwago’s health in custody. Specialists at Mulago National Referral Hospital identified several medical conditions, including a spinal condition requiring specialised treatment. Lukwago told the court that doctors had recommended treatment in India. His lawyers partly sought bail to enable him to access that treatment, but the High Court dismissed his application on July 30, ruling that the medical evidence presented had not been certified by a prison medical officer. Lukwago remains on remand, facing a charge of misprision of treason, which he denies. He was committed to the High Court for trial on July 16. His transfer came days after Kifefe Kizza-Besigye was moved from Luzira Maximum Security Prison to the same facility following a serious deterioration in his health. AGORA calls for Lukwago to receive immediate and unrestricted access to the specialised medical care his condition requires. In an affidavit sworn by ACP Tumugumye Godwin, Uganda Police Force acknowledge that Kivumbi’s vehicle was stopped at a police checkpoint but reject allegations that he was arrested, abducted, or detained by police officers. The police states that there is no record within the Uganda Police Force confirming his arrest or detention and argue that the applicant has not provided evidence linking the Inspector General of Police or police officers to Kivumbi’s disappearance. But on July,10 2026 when Muwanga Kivumbi was abducted, Police is seen at the scene as shown in the video below.

Nearly three weeks since Dr. Kizza Besigye collapsed in court, his health remains a serious concern as his wife, Winnie Byanyima , calls for his release on bail and transfer abroad for specialist treatment. Besigye collapsed in court on July 29 after nearly 20 months on remand. He was taken to Mulago National Referral Hospital for treatment before authorities transferred him back into detention at Luzira Maximum Security Prison. Byanyima says Dr. Besigye remains unable to walk or speak. She says the facility where Besigye is being held cannot provide the rehabilitation and specialist care he needs. She wants the court to release him on bail so his family can take him to Geneva, Switzerland, for treatment. She says Besigye will return to Uganda after recovering to face his case. Her appeal comes after the courts dismissed several bail applications by Besigye and his co-accused, Hajj Obeid Lutale, leaving both on remand. Byanyima insists that Besigye remains an accused person with a constitutional right to health and due process. His illness, she argues, should not become another form of punishment. #FreeKizzaBesigye
