The state’s Immigrant Worker Protection Act takes full effect on Oct. 1, and the AG’s Office is providing guidance and materials to help employers meet obligations under the law. The law requires that employers inform workers within five business days when federal agents have issued a notice to conduct an inspection of workers’ employment eligibility documents, known as I-9 forms. Our office successfully pushed for the Legislature to pass the law earlier this year as part of our commitment to protecting the rights of workers and increasing fairness and transparency in the workplace. More information, as well as links to guidance for businesses, a mandatory workplace poster, and model notice forms in multiple languages, is available on our website. // La Ley de Protección de los Trabajadores Inmigrantes del estado entra plenamente en vigor el 1ro de octubre. Por este motivo, la Oficina del Procurador General ofrece orientación y materiales para ayudar a los empleadores a cumplir con las obligaciones establecidas por la ley. La ley exige que los empleadores notifiquen a los trabajadores en un plazo de cinco días hábiles cuando los agentes federales emitan un aviso para inspeccionar los formularios I-9 con los que se verifica la elegibilidad para el empleo. Washington is back in court co-leading a lawsuit to defend our state’s safe and secure vote-by-mail system. On March 31, President Trump signed an unlawful executive order attempting to establish a national list of eligible voters and directing the U.S. Postal Service, an independent federal agency, to transmit mail ballots only to those on the list. But the President does not have authority to do that. The Constitution makes clear that states and Congress control how elections are run. Learn more here:
