The Egyptian television drama series Sahab El Ard (The Owners of the Land) with English subtitles portrays the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza during the genocide. It has already drawn criticism in Israeli media. Today, a spokeswoman for the Israel army claimed that the series “turns the killer into a victim” and promotes what she called a false narrative. But this series reflects much of what we have actually lived. I feel a deep sadness when friends tell me about watching clips from it. They say it brings the terror and horror they endured flooding back into their minds and souls. It forces them to relive moments they have tried, and failed, to escape. And yet, it is important to watch. Because remembering is resistance. This is a short clip from the first episode. Episodes are available for free here

More than 30 martyrs have fallen in a horrific massacre committed by Israeli occupation forces against civilians in Gaza this morning, at the aid distribution center in Rafah. In a second video, heavy gunfire is seen targeting civilians heading to receive humanitarian aid at the distribution point in the Nitzarim area, central Gaza. Owen Jones

October 27, 2018 I was in my classroom in Beit Hanoun, just a breath away from the northern border of Gaza. The skies were loud with airstrikes. The night before, I was sure the Ministry of Education would cancel school but they didn’t. So we came. It started like a normal day, until the third class. The bombings grew louder. Closer. My students, just nine years old, began to panic. I was terrified too, but I had to be their shield. I immediately stopped the lesson, turned the loud speakers on, and played their favorite song. I asked them to come to the front of the room and dance. And they did. Their laughter rose above the sound of war. The airstrikes didn’t stop, but for a few minutes, they forgot. Today, I learned from my colleague that some of those boys didn’t survive this genocide. I couldn't protect them. I’m so sorry, my boys. You danced while the sky fell, and I’ll never forget you.
