This was a first for me in West Virginia! A Timber Rattlesnake! Also West Virginia’s state reptile. Adults can get up to four feet long! Known to be mostly docile, they would rather scurry away but will use their rattle as a warning. Needless to say we scared each other! If it wasn’t for his rattle I wouldn’t have even known he was there! (Picture me jumping two feet to my right when I heard it right next to me lol) Queue my dad: “Did you have your snake bite kit?” I’ll be adding that to my Amazon cart 🤣 I had the pleasure of reporting this sighting to WVDNR Also saw two bears on this 6 mile hike but they didn’t want their picture taken 😝
