🚨 Company on the Road 🚨 Leading dissident Frankie Quinn has denied giving political advice to Garvaghy Road Residents’ Group spokesman Breandán Mac Cionnaith. The former Provisional IRA figure, a long-time opponent of the Good Friday Agreement, has been present in Portadown since the start of the current stand-off and has been seen in deep conversation with the residents’ spokesman. Quinn, who was jailed for 16 years for possessing rifles and a 1,000lb bomb, says it was Mac Cionnaith who had been advising him. The denial is noted. The presence is the point. A man with a serious conviction for explosives and weapons has been a visible figure at the centre of the protest that has blocked a court-upheld Parades Commission determination for over a week. The residents’ spokesman has been the public face of that obstruction. The two men have been observed in close discussion. Whether advice flowed one way or the other, the company being kept on the Garvaghy Road is a matter of legitimate public interest. This is the same protest that police have repeatedly described as unnotified and unlawful. It is the same protest that prevented 35 Orangemen from exercising a restricted, silent, lawful right that survived multiple court challenges. It is the same protest that senior Sinn Féin figures, including the First Minister, have addressed and encouraged. The presence of a senior dissident republican with Quinn’s record does not automatically determine the character of every person on that road. It does, however, sit uneasily with claims that this is a purely local, peaceful, community-driven defence of rights. When the public face of the blockade is in regular conversation with a figure of that background, questions about the wider influences at work are neither unreasonable nor sectarian. They are basic scrutiny. Portadown District followed the legal process. It accepted heavy restrictions. It secured a determination. The response has been street occupation, political endorsement of that occupation, and now the visible involvement of individuals from the dissident republican tradition. The rule of law is not strengthened when those with the most hardline records appear at the centre of efforts to nullify a court-backed outcome. The denial of formal advice does not erase the optics or the company. The law remains clear. A determination was made and upheld. It has not been enforced. That failure, and the cast of characters surrounding it, continues to erode confidence that the same rules apply to everyone. #GarvaghyRoad #Drumcree #RuleOfLaw #FrankieQuinn #Accountability #PUL #NorthernIreland
