Do you think recycling is a hoax? This is our community recycling center and I find it hard to believe that everything here is perfectly sorted. As a woodworker, I absolutely hate this. Instead of bringing the original top back to life, they decided to go with brand new walnut that probably cost $2000 and decided to beat the shit out of it to create the same effect. If you have an old antique piece, you should keep it as original as possible, and not put lipstick on a pig, especially with a completely different species of wood.

This may be my most over-engineered DIY home project I’ve ever completed. Our dogs are sneaky and wait until we go to bed to break into the living room and sleep on the couch. The couch is covered with hair the next morning and one of the dogs chews the corners of pillows. My wife is not a fan to say the least. So naturally, I pull inspiration from retractable bollards used in traffic control. I 3D printed housings to mount under the subfloor, stained oak dowels to match our floors, and used Blum Tip-On (push to open) hardware for the spring loaded action. Now, we pop up the floor bollards and slide the gate right over them. Until dogs grow opposable thumbs, no more living room couch for them. Engineering: 1 Dogs: 0

Contracting a cabinet shop to build a highly custom wall cabinet configuration and waiting until it is installed and painted to decide that they don’t like is a major red flag if you’re a sub of this builder. A finish sample should have been approved on the material spec’d for the project. If a sample wasn’t approved then shame on the builder/designer for moving forward with a cabinet order without an approval. I get that mistakes happen but this is unnecessarily inefficient and costly. They better be paying that shop to replace all of this.
