Extremely unsurprising to see two of the worst people in the world praising Azerbaijan’s corrupt genocidal dictator.

Four days before the ethnic cleansing of Artsakh Yuri Kim said the U.S. would “not countenance any attempt to ethnically cleanse the Armenian people of Nagorno-Karabakh.” Today she met with Aliyev’s lapdog Hikmet Hajiyev. Is this how the U.S. stands up to genocidal regimes?

“We will not tolerate any attack on the people of Nagorno-Karabakh.” Last week, Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs insisted the US would not countenance any attempt at ethnic cleansing Artsakh’s Armenians. Was this another empty threat? Will the US be a bystander to yet another preventable genocide.

Israeli forces struck a residential building in Bourj Hammoud – the heart of Lebanon's Armenian community. This comes just days after U.S.-Israeli forces hit a residential complex in Iran's Majidieh district – also home to a significant Armenian community. Bourj Hammoud was founded by survivors of the Armenian Genocide – and was a place where Armenian culture & identity were able to flourish in the wake of the attempted destruction of our nation. Over the course of the century, Beirut became a global center of Armenian culture, language, education, and diaspora life. During the Lebanese Civil War, Armenians organized self-defense units in Bourj Hammoud to preserve their neutrality, protect the community, and prevent any force from capturing the district. During the Syrian Civil War, Bourj Hammoud became a critical refuge for Armenians fleeing Aleppo. During the 2006 Israeli assault on Lebanon, Bourj Hammoud's Armenian schools, churches & community centers offered food and shelter for refugees from across the country. And following the 2020 Beirut Port Explosion – which hit Bourj Hammoud hard – the Armenian community rallied to provide humanitarian relief & shelter to those impacted. At its peak before the civil war, Armenians made up close to 10% of Lebanon's population. Today, less than half remain. As the illegal U.S.-Israeli war of aggression against Iran destabilizes the entire region – our communities across the Middle East face a threat to their very existence.
