In 2025, Rutland Police intercepted a local shop owner with a carload of illegal fake cigarettes. Investigations showed the deliveries were to Oakham Minishop and Uppingham Welcome Minishop. It's unacceptable that while honest retailers work hard to serve our communities, those involved in the illegal tobacco and vape trade continue operating with little consequence. We need action to protect our high streets, support legitimate businesses, and keep illegal products out of the hands of children.

NEWS: Non-fatal strangulation in pornography will now be banned – after over a year laying amendments the Government has finally recognised it must act. Strangulation has been normalised due to this dangerous content, and too many girls and women are suffering and even losing their lives. The Government said a ban wasn’t necessary, and then whipped their MPs against banning this misogynistic practice, but what matters now is that everyone will be better protected as we end the normalisation of strangulation.

The Prime Minister fled the Chamber dismissing me when I asked him to correct the record. Today he will attempt to hide a cache of papers about Mandelson under the arguments of “national security” and “international relations”. The premise of his excuse, is inaccurate.

From the deck of a Taiwanese coast guard vessel, the Strait looks calm. It is anything but. If conflict comes to Taiwan, it comes for all of us: an estimated $10 trillion blow to the world economy - dwarfing COVID and the financial crisis - and the chips that power modern life gone overnight. Nobody gets to sit this one out. Deterrence is cheaper than war, and it starts with having the courage to stand our ground. So much is at stake.

I’m horrified that a paedophile has been moved to an open prison - allowed to roam our communities freely - despite still having another 7 years of his sentence to serve. I have demanded the Government urgently review how this unacceptable decision has been made and ensure this is not repeated elsewhere.

Pursue a Special Tribunal on the Crime of Aggression. Sanction Russia’s Deposit Insurance Agency to hit the oligarchs funding murder.

Barton confirms Peter Mandelson would have been given sight of the extremely sensitive China Audit. The same China Audit the Government has hidden from MPs and refused to discuss in Parliament. Keir Starmer supported Mandelson being given a role where he would have enormous influence on our China policy despite the multiple red flags raised in vetting due to his close relationship, including financial interests, with the Chinese Communist Party.

Labour’s plans to charge VAT on independent school fees would have a devastating impact on our local economy and families. 📚 Over 2,000 people are employed by our 10 independent schools in Rutland and Stamford. 📚1 in 8 Rutland children go to an independent school. 📚 Over 1,000 pupils with special educational needs or a disability attend an independent school in Rutland and Stamford. 📚 1 in 5 constituents who are military or veterans in Rutland and Stamford send their children to an independent school. Labour’s policy would also put significant pressure on our local comprehensive schools, inflating class sizes and reducing the choices available to parents.

The Government may say it had no idea about the Chinese Communist Party’s plans for 208 secret rooms and a secret chamber adjacent to cables critical to our national security in their new embassy. But now it knows. The Government must act now. The Government must protect our country and say no to the Chinese Communist Party Embassy. Today I urged them to act.

Today the Government finally published its long-delayed Defence Investment Plan. Don’t be fooled by the headlines. We're 31st out of 32 NATO members on rearmament - ahead only of Iceland, which has no Armed Forces at all. On defence spending as a share of GDP, we’ve dropped from 3rd to 12th since Labour took over. A late, underfunded plan from a departing Prime Minister isn’t good enough. Britain deserves better.

Too many rapists are being given lenient sentences. David Lammy is proposing an arbitrary target to reduce the number of young people in custody. He also wants to treat under 25s like children in sentencing. Labour want to give 16 year olds the vote, yet believe a 23-year-old rapist is too young to be held accountable for his actions. It was shameful the Government won’t refer his sentence for being unduly lenient.

We are facing an epidemic of misogyny. Too often, rape and sexual violence are dismissed as youthful mistakes rather than life-altering crimes that leave victims carrying the consequences forever. Our justice system must deliver real accountability and deterrence.

This morning we learned Jonathan Powell was also appointed as National Security Adviser before being vetted. In February, I was told his security vetting had been conducted to the usual developed vetting standard. Yet more serious questions about whether due process was followed by this Government. Yet Labour MPs voted to deny the British people the answers we deserve.
