Macinka reaffirmed the Czech Republic's commitment to veto any EU initiative against Israel, and revealed the pressure European countries have been exerting on Prague to change its position on Israel. That pressure, he said, included requests from fellow EU foreign ministers to abstain from votes on sanctions. "Of course we pay some political price for that, but I don't care." he said. The Foreign Minister added that he opposed sanctions on far right Israeli minister Ben-Gvir and Smotrich because “these people do not deserve any additional publicity”, and expressed concerned that the progressive European left has “become mainstream”.
