Mike Brown deserves his flowers for also leading the Knicks to a championship. Game 4 was a coaching clinic with the way he utilized Jose Alvarado. Down 20 in the fourth, most coaches run back the familiar lineup. Bridges is the safe call, the media proof call. Brown stayed with Alvarado because a second ball handler was working. More pace, playmaking, less pressure on Brunson. Alvarado paid it off. He contributed with a 3, a spinarooni layup down the middle, and a clutch assist to OG. If it fails, Brown not only do the Knicks go back on the road 2-2 losing all momentum, but the media would blast Brown to oblivion, and everyone starts second guessing the decision to hire him. It didn't fail. It gave us the 3-1 lead and probably the series. And it's exactly why bringing Alvarado back was non-negotiable. Not many guys show out with the lights that bright.

Jalen Brunson just won Finals MVP with a wrist that needed surgery. Dropped 45 in a closeout game. Led the playoffs in clutch scoring for the third straight postseason. Went right at the reigning 7'4 DPOY without flinching. All with a left wrist that goes under the knife soon. This ring just got that much more valuable. Dirk's 2011 run has been the gold standard for individual title value. He beat the superteam, carried the franchise, no asterisks. This is in the conversation now. Second-round pick. Told he was too small. Wins the title over the most physically dominant defender the league has ever seen. Does it with a shooting hand that needed surgery. Some rings mean more than others. This one just became the most valuable individual ring since Dirk. Maybe more. Heart of a champion.

Kobe didn't want the last shot, he needed it. Brunson's built the same way. He just led the Finals with 22 clutch points, the most in a Finals in 15 years, since Dirk in 2011. He's led the playoffs in clutch usage three straight postseasons. 45 in a closeout game. 13 straight in the fourth. Attacking Wembanyama on switches with a title on the line. The Knicks trailed by double digits in all four of their Finals wins. Brunson hit a dagger in every single one. Some guys survive the pressure. He hunts it. The moment doesn't find him. He finds it. Best closer of this era isn't a debate anymore.

Every championship team needs a glue guy. For the Knicks, that's Josh Hart. His impact doesn't always show in the box score, and that's the point. He can hit the jumper, he can put it on the floor, but his real value is the stuff that never gets graded. All plays aren't equal. One rebound on the stat sheet can be the rebound that breaks a team's spirit. One assist can be the one that breaks their confidence. One loose ball can flip a whole quarter. Watch the clip. He's a heat seeking missile for every 50/50 ball. Never afraid to roll up his sleeves and get his hands dirty while everyone else is watching the flight of the shot. Rings get won on possessions like these. The box score just doesn't know how to count them.
