HAPPENING NOW: Union activist and NDP leadership candidate Rob Ashton suggests we "eat the damn rich" to thunderous applause at the party's convention.

Especially surreal for the political nerds who followed this race from beginning to end: the underdog, despite being the most inexperienced; attacked for her age, then called a racist; backstabbed by her own staffers; and then, they tried to disqualify her at the eleventh hour.

Someone asked us to track down a video of what appeared to be South Asian men shooting guns into the woods on-top of a Jeep Wrangler with a B.C. license plate. Ask and ye shall receive. Here's how we did it. A 🧵.

It has come to my attention that today is Day Three of the 2026 NDP leadership convention and that yesterday was Day Two. I feel terrible about the mix up given the seriousness of the event and the gravity of the moment—so I've gone back and compiled some highlights from Day One.

HAPPENING NOW: Poilievre and Carney go at it over gas taxes like cracked out hood dudes in Denny’s at 3 a.m.

HAPPENING NOW: Eby renames Site C Damn after ex-Premier John Horgan. Horgan opposed the project, including being photographed in 2012 with a sign reading "Site C Sucks." In the same tradition, I wonder if one day we will see a "David Eby pipeline" stretching across the province.

Jagmeet Singh's involvement in the 2026 NDP convention was limited—consisting of a short tribute video and a brief appearance. Just moments later, a "he/they" delegate got an important lesson in leftist politics: never ask how much things cost and never question the dead leader.

HAPPENING NOW: Thus ends Day One of the 2026 NDP leadership election convention. The party delegates' primary concern — up to the very last speaker — remained the "equity cards." I am excited to see what modifications are made to the system and how this unfolds on Day Two.
