My presentation of credentials to the President of the State of Israel, יצחק הרצוג Isaac Herzog, a small part of our conversation that was made public. We also held an official, private, and highly strategic discussion focused on shared interests that was not shared with the press.

A year ago, I passed my viva and received my Doctor of Philosophy. This week, I attended the Bridgewater Hall at Manchester for my PhD graduation ceremony. I am grateful to everyone who supported my research, particularly the unlimited support of my family, great guidance of my supervisors, and, most importantly, my research participants, who contributed significantly and enabled the generation of new knowledge. Thank you all!

The Somaliland–Ethiopia relationship delivers mutual benefits across political, security, economic, and people-to-people dimensions, and the recognition of Somaliland would further enrich this partnership by deepening cooperation, enhancing regional stability, and advancing the shared interests of both governments and their peoples. I kindly encourage everyone to watch the interview, which provides important context and insights on this issue.

I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the resilient people of the Republic of Somaliland on this historic achievement. This marks a new phase of national advancement as Somaliland moves from an unrecognised country to a partially recognised state through a strategic, legally grounded process, reflecting long struggle and sacrifice, and is further strengthened by the growing Somaliland–Israel strategic partnership that promises significant diplomatic, security, and economic benefits, opening the door to broader opportunities and greater achievements in the near future.

Somaliland's political perspective epitribes a mature democracy anchored in stability and unity. After the most recent presidential contest in Hargeisa, departing ministers from the losing party joined people in festivities to show a shared respect of election results and a dedication to national development. This setting captures the political milieu of inclusivity, togetherness, and forward-looking government of Somaliland. Elections are a reaffirmation of common democratic principles that give stability and progress of the nation first priority, not a dividing tool. By comparison, the political scene of Somalia is one of anarchy and conflict. While federal states issue arrest warrants against their own president, indicating a total collapse of order, conflicts between MPs and security officials in Mogadishu expose institutional weakness. The analogy is clear: actions that would be unimaginable in functional systems—that of a U.S. state trying to arrest illegally the president or a British county filing a warrant against the prime minister. This discrepancy begs a crucial issue: how can the international community promote unification between the peaceful democracy of Somaliland and the fractured, authoritarian government of Somalia? Such a concept ignores the natural conflict between combining a fragile, aid-dependent failing state with a successful vibrant democracy.
