One thousand two hundred days of a war with relentless suffering for the Sudanese people. Sudan’s man-made war is being paid for on the backs of women and children who had no say in it, yet suffer the most, missing an education. At last week’s UN Security Council Arria-formula meeting on Safeguarding Education in Sudan, I reiterated the call to end this war and pull Sudan back from the brink of losing another generation of its children to a life without education.

The world has changed significantly since the #SDGs were negotiated, bringing new challenges and opportunities that call for renewed focus. In London, I joined leaders from across sectors for a timely gathering on the future of sustainable development. We discussed shared security and solidarity for people, planet and peace. We must treat development as the emergency it is. The decisions we make now will shape how the multilateral system evolves to support countries in the future.
