Hi, expert in virology here (I have a PhD in microbiology). The silver lining is actually that pneumonic plague (bacteria, not a virus) is not transmissible enough to cause a pandemic to start with. I'm concerned abt biosafety, security, & transparency, but not about pandemics

So this interview lasted 2 hours so this “you’re scaring me” part might seem like an overreaction or fearmongering to someone without that context. There’s a lot of evidence to support my hypothesis that a potential H5N1 pandemic would be worse than COVID.

Went on CNN yesterday to talk about the hantavirus cruise & why that isn’t what we should worry about. Andes virus is less a threat than the choice to voluntarily sit out a leading role in global health crises & cripple our capacity. We are terribly vulnerable. Save America Movement

Ebola isn’t going to “go airborne.” Letting thirsty amateurs waste time with speculative Ebola fearmongering while deaths mount in the ongoing Bundibugyo outbreak helps the villains responsible for the suffering & death of thousands: the destruction of USAID & withdrawal from WHO. Matt Ridley was so mad a science website published a Substack article I wrote a couple months back about the natural origin of the Covid pandemic that he wrote a boring, mostly factually incorrect clapback in response. A quick skim confirmed he remains the intellectual equivalent of a cucumber sandwich & about as spicy & interesting. But he really has been hard at work simping for conspiracy-fueled fascism. So I made a reaction video on the way home from the nail salon 💅🖕🏻 Come for my petty fashion criticism, stay for my explanation of why I remain unswayed by his arguments.

“Scientists shouldn’t get political.” Except for when politics is destroying science, killing millions, and making the world a much more dangerous place for everyone. It’s never inappropriate or unprofessional to stand up for your field, especially when that’s the right thing to do for our health, security, and freedom. ✊🏻🇺🇸🇨🇦

I was unpleasantly surprised to have my taxi ride interrupted by Dr. Drew selling ivermectin—which doesn’t work to treat respiratory viruses—at a 600% markup & claiming falsely that vaccines are dangerous & don’t work. When does quackery exceed board standard tolerability limits?

Looking for reliable news on the hantavirus outbreak? Stepping out of my vaccine conference to be on the BBC World Service radio in a few minutes to get into more detail. I’ll be doing more updates like this with Save America Movement so let me know what you think and ask me anything!

Also, hard to respond at all when there’s nobody to do any responding. Covid was awful, but govt programs like Operation Warp Speed saved lives. CDC did epi investigations. NIH invented the Moderna vaccine & funded research. FDA authorized tests, vaccines, drugs. Not this time

The lab leakers have spoken & my article about the evidence that the pandemic started with zoonotic spillover is VERY DESPERATE/STUPID (just like me). As usual, it’s a lot of effort to deny they are conspiracy theorists & useful idiots Propaganda time!

I stopped by The Incubator to have a little chat with my PhD mentor MicrobeTV about H5N1 bird flu. I guess I’m all grown up as a virologist now that my teacher is asking me questions, but as Prof. Racaniello taught me, you should never stop learning ❤️🦠
