All 242 Air India passengers are feared dead. On screens, they are numbers. But behind each number are real human lives. This video by a young gay British couple on their last night in India shook me to the core. So many futures cut short today. So many stories left unwritten.

The casteist hatred directed towards Abhijeet Dipke is disgusting. On Republic, was stunned to see panelists defending AI created images of him receiving a "master's degree in toilet cleaning." Shameful to see such rubbish being aired on national television. How is this legal?

The Supreme Court order on stray dogs in Delhi is nothing but a death sentence for every single stray on every single street in the national capital - and each one of us needs to raise our voice against it to #SaveDelhiDogs. Listen, I’m not some animal rights activist. I think every single stray dog needs to be vaccinated, sterilised, and released into safe surroundings. Those who bite humans should be rehabilitated or put into a shelter. But how on EARTH and WHY are you putting EVERY SINGLE STREET DOG in Delhi in a shelter? Pehle toh aapke paas shelter nahi hai, aur order implement ABHI honi hai. What is the government doing? Releasing them into the forest! Into the ridge! How the hell will they survive? What is worse, they have absurd rules - you cannot adopt any dog that has been put into a shelter. So what will a puppy who has been picked up from the street today do? Live the rest of his life in a sarkari prison? The Supreme Court is correct to worry about a rise in rabies cases. But the solution is not this ABSURD, IMPRACTICAL, and INHUMAN plan to throw all our street dogs into poorly managed, poorly built shelters in the middle of nowhere. GLOBAL examples have shown that there is only ONE solution to this problem: vaccinate, sterilise, and release. Why does the government not want to follow SUPREME COURT RULINGS directing the MCD to carry out sterilisation drives? With all due respect to the Supreme Court, today’s verdict is not based in legal precedent nor in common sense or scientific fact. Aur toh aur, it goes against laws put in place by Parliament because of leaders like Maneka Sanjay Gandhi ji. This is a classic case of judicial overreach by a judiciary that has forgotten that it cannot invent the law. Finally, baat rahi of long term solutions. Most strays were once pets bought from sasta breeders who don’t care about animals. What happens when the dog that Dimple Aunty bought for her son’s birthday is thrown onto the streets one year later? When he mates with another dog abandoned by another careless owner and has kids on the street? How many dogs will you keep transferring to these shelters - and for how long? Look at the condition of the gaushalas constructed by this government. Look at the failed policy of trying to send monkeys to shelters. Jo gay ko sambhal nahi paaye, jo Dilli mein bandaron ki samasya ka hal dhoondh nahi sake, woh kutton ki kya izzat karenge? MCD ki incompetence ki keemat hamare strays kyun bhare? Rekha Gupta ji, reconsider your decision. You still have time. We can work together to ensure Delhi’s streets are safe for dogs AND humans.

248 crore flyover, only 750 metres long, costing Mumbaikars 33 lakh rupees per metre of taxpayer money. And when you park your bike on it, you have the unique opportunity to leave a mark that lasts forever! Sinking into freshly laid asphal, soft enough for a bike stand to go inside within days of inauguration. Congratulations, माझी Mumbai, आपली BMC 👏 I am sure you will release another unnamed “clarification” about this as well. Because you have clearly decided to take citizens on a ride!

I find it almost amusing that we're discussing Neha Bora's T-shirt on prime-time television instead of the Hindu Kranti Dal activists who were released on bail after they came to Central Delhi with knives, swords, and lathis to beat up peaceful protesters. They were dragged like Ajmal Kasab on the street for chanting "ek biscuit do chai, Gyanesh Kumar, bye-bye." This is why the government is cowardly. The cowardice of a government that treats all protest like a crime is on full display, and the fact that we're discussing t-shirts is highlighting that cowardice even further. I'll tell you why Neha was there, right? Because Neha showed a courage that very few of us have been able to show to continue speaking up against the government. She's also a member of AISA, the parent body of which is CPI-ML, which is part of the INDIA Alliance. Finally, use a very interesting phrase: "total revolution," as if it's a very, very terrible thing. "Sampoorna Kranti" was the call given by the JP movement. Can the BJP please tell me whether they think the JP movement was a farce, whether it was a foreign-funded regime change operation, whether the ABVP that supported that Sampoorna Kranti was also part of a foreign-funded operation? Whether the JDU, which today has filed trespassing charges against Saurav and Ashutosh, and whose leader Nitish Kumar (who was once part of student protests) is also somehow going to say that Sampoorna Kranti is a foreign-funded operation?

On the last day of campaigning, Dr P Thiaga Rajan (PTR) broke down. It is sometimes difficult to see a grown man tear up during an election campaign. Such behaviour, after all, isn’t expected of politicians. We have reduced our profession into a cruel, heartless one. Yet, this rare moment of vulnerability was telling: over the last ten days, I have observed a man who leads not with his mind but his heart. Of course he has degrees from MIT, of course he’s been a brilliant Finance Minister, of course he’s one of the sharpest brains around - but what sets him apart is his deep kindness and commitment to a politics of care. What could be a better testament to that politics than the fact that there was not a single dry eye in the rally he addressed? As Tamil Nadu heads to the polls on the 23rd of April, I am certain that PTR will win from Madurai. What I more certain of, however, is that he will have won many hearts - not only in Madurai, but far far beyond.

Footage of PM's outreach to students in Vadodara playing 24/7 on screens at Churchgate Station in Mumbai. Who is paying for this? Was the event a government event or a party event? Am I a "naraz phupha" for asking difficult questions about how our taxpayer money is being spent?

Just reached Jantar Mantar. 3 AM: barricades & metal detectors are being removed. Reports suggest plain clothes officers with lathis roaming in the crowd. Intent is to let antisocial elements infiltrate the protest. But they do not understand the power of a people's mocement.

It is entirely unbecoming of the Prime Minister of India to be celebrating the inauguration of a temple in Paris while dead bodies of students are being pulled out of the rubble of a hostel in New Delhi. After a scandal involving women being asked not to work at the Eiffel Tower during the BAPS visit, the MEA has said the Indian government had nothing to do with the matter. If the Indian government had nothing to do with the matter, then why was the ambassador present at the inauguration? Why was the Prime Minister speaking with the Indian flag in the background, as the Prime Minister of India and not as a private citizen, at the inauguration of this temple? When the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple was inaugurated in Ayodhya, it was explicitly made clear that the Prime Minister is attending in a personal capacity. How does he attend the inauguration of a temple in an official capacity now? How does he talk about the India-France bilateral relationship at that address? Now you cannot run away from these difficult questions. India's ambassador to UNESCO is busy defending BAPS. BAPS is a private limited company in France. The temple itself claims that tens of millions of euros were used in the building of this temple that makes it historic. Where did this money come from? How has it gone into a private limited company? What is the accountability for promoting a temple like this? Does the Prime Minister promote all temples that are opened across the world? Does the Prime Minister promote gurdwaras that are opened across the world? Does the Prime Minister promote mosques that are open across the world? Or have we stopped pretending we are a secular country? Finally, this has become a moment for the far right in France to target Indians. That's racist, and that racist hatred must be called out, but that hatred cannot be used as a justification for labour rights violations at that temple. In New Jersey, serious allegations were made that Dalit labourers were exploited, paid below minimum wage. Forty people apparently have died of silicosis, according to some estimates, because of that stone cutting. Who will take responsibility for these actions? Who will answer questions as to why the land was donated to BAPS in France, why land was donated in Abu Dhabi to the same BAPS? Is there pressure from the Indian government in doing so? Difficult questions cannot be avoided, and certainly not right now under the guise of religion.

“Kya paaya,” asks Supriya Sule tai at a hard-hitting press conference in Mumbai. When questions about LPG cylinders are raised, about the war in West Asia are raised - the government says, “stop wasting taxpayer money.” Wasn’t taxpayer money wasted by convening a hasty two-day session in the middle of state elections without any consensus? All this while, there is no Women’s Commission chief in Maharashtra. Vishakha Committees are not set up. Nothing done for women police officers except pink cars flagged off before elections - that are no longer on roads. These are the real questions to be asking the government. Women’s welfare should not, and cannot, be a PR stunt.
