Not a shred of decency. During today’s march on Rustaveli Avenue honoring Georgian fighters killed in Ukraine, a group of Russian tourists passed by on an open-top sightseeing bus. As protesters expressed their disapproval, the tourists responded with mocking and insulting gestures. They rode off away to chants of “Putin Khuilo.”

I’ve seen some of you critically asking why Georgians still dance and sing while their homeland is captured and they are engaged in such a decisive battle. I wasn’t sure how to explain it, but I came across this remarkable excerpt from one of the greatest Georgian philosophers of the 20th century, Merab Mamardashvili. In it, he perfectly captures the source of our joy. Please, take a moment to read it: “I have always felt that the place where I was born and raised possesses a unique talent. I would call it the talent to live or the talent for uncanonical joy. I sense it in the people around me, in the air itself, and even within myself. Yet, I have always thought that, unlike my compatriots, I am heavier, somewhat clumsy. Our joy, however, is indeed light and uncanonical. There is no single reason for joy, yet we celebrate anyway — like that, without any reason. This joy, unjustified by our circumstances and therefore uncanonical, is the essence of the place where I was born. It represents a distinct form of tragedy, where you completely forbid yourself from troubling or burdening others with your own tragedy. In front of others, you must always appear happy and joyful, illuminated by this very uncanonical joy. The bell of joy hums in our blood, and it stands as our defiance against fortune, whether good or bad. This kind of joy is something that cannot be taken from us.” Video: Mariam Geguchadze

Unbelievable: Activist Mindia Shervashidze, who spent almost a year unjustly detained, was fined 500 GEL just 10 minutes after his release because he shouted, “I love you,” to Rezo Kiknadze and Irakli Nadiradze, political prisoners with whom Mindia had shared a cell. 🎥 MoSe

Just in: “This isn’t a rally — it’s the first National European Convention,” said Paata Burchuladze, one of the organizers of today’s protest, announcing that people will “vote out Georgian Dream right here, on Liberty Square, through direct democracy.” Key points of the Declaration: Power belongs to the Georgian people; The current regime is constitutionally illegitimate, and its authority is terminated; The National Convention declares a peaceful transitional period, which envisions the peaceful transfer of power. The people have voted in favor of it.

Fireworks Before Christmas - the new track & video by Georgian musician Coo (David Tsintsadze) features footage from last year’s mass #GeorgiaProtests. His first EP, against, will be dedicated to the resistance. This honestly gives me shivers. Until victory, SAKARTVELO! 🇬🇪🇪🇺
