When you’re a massive Whovian and suddenly find yourself getting to play the Doctor Who theme on the organ of the Royal Albert Hall for Russell T Davies & Murray Gold. Posted a video of some John Williams over on TikTok & a few people got grumpy. I get comments like this relatively regularly & I think it’s a REALLY important conversation to have, so I thought I would bring it here too. Film music etc is NOT ‘crap’, & has the potential to bring so many more people to our instruments ❤️

Yesterday was heaven. Hilary Hahn and I spontaneously decided to take a Bach organ fugue & turn it into a duet for violin & organ - this was our first time trying it out. Such fun experimenting & responding to each other in real time ❤️ I learnt so much from this!!

Still on a high from last night - getting to play for Top Gun at the Royal Albert Hall is something I’ll never forget. Huge thanks to Lorne Balfe for getting me involved! Also: yes, I really did give Tom Cruise an organ lesson, and yes, I still haven’t recovered 😂

I think it’s so important that our Girl Choristers get to experience core choral repertoire despite being an upper voices choir, so I love these arrangements by N. Averina! When we sing in 6 parts we will often stand and sing together in a circle, with me singing instead of conducting. It’s one of my favourite things ❤️❤️❤️ Abendlied is out today!!

Another moment from this week’s Doctor Who prom BBC Proms. I LOVE the attention to detail from Murray Gold & Alastair King - introducing the organ for Sutekh’s theme because it was a pipe organ which summoned Sutekh in the 1975 Pyramids of Mars episodes!!

One of the highlights of my recent US tour was getting to meet Nykoda - 9 years old, self-taught & a glorious human being. I had seen some of his videos online & started plotting with his mum to get him to Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall as a surprise. Then he sat down and played Widor 😍 this was honestly so moving & inspiring. I can’t wait to see what he does in the future ❤️

I cannot stop watching all the videos from AURORA’s show Royal Albert Hall. This felt like one of those ‘once in a lifetime’ shows where the stars just align in the most glorious way ✨I LOVE how music makes these moments possible. Sam Yung’s video (the bottom one) captures even more of the magic from the audience’s perspective ❤️
