Tapta, a well-known Meitei singer, recently released a song that promotes violence, expressing a desire for the complete eradication of the Kuki-Zo community, even in the event of achieving peace. The lyrics contain a derogatory claim defaming the Indian Army, asserting that they involve themselves in inappropriate or exploitative behaviour with daughters affected by AIDS. These lyrics reveal a strong presence of xenophobia, prejudice, bigotry, racism, and discrimination towards another ethnic group. It appears that they have been radicalised to harbour intense animosity towards this community. In June, the Meitei Civil Society Organisation (CSO) named COCOMI declared war on the Kuki-Zo tribes. There are also numerous Meitei individuals, ranging from ordinary citizens to prominent figures, openly advocating for war and the extermination of the Kuki community. Given the prevailing attitude of the Meitei population towards the Kuki community, achieving peace seems highly unlikely. ◾The Kuki-Zo community has valid reasons for expressing their reluctance to have state forces deployed in their dominant areas. The evidence we witness in this video, showing state forces firing at the central forces, cannot be tampered with or ignored. ◾Dear Indians, try to imagine living in a state where state forces openly engage in firing upon the central forces. Such actions raise doubts about how we, whom the majority Meitei community calls illegal immigrants, refugees, etc., are perceived by these state forces working only for the Meiteis. ◾When we assert that state forces are involved in attacking us, it may sound unreliable to some. However, this incident serves as a reason and evidence for trusting and believing that the violence is state-sponsored. ◾The situation becomes grave when the central forces, meant to ensure security, are themselves under attack by the state forces. For us, the Kuki-Zo community, this poses a serious threat to our lives as we struggle to survive in a power structure dominated by biased state forces.
