Since the wave of support, but also hate, for Metallica is showing no signs of slowing down, here's a bit of history that will ruffle the feathers of a few communism enthusiasts. On 28 September 1991, Metallica, along with rock legends AC/DC and Pantera, whose career was about to skyrocket, performed at the Monsters of Rock festival in Moscow. It was the first time the festival had been held in Russia. Those who lived through Soviet occupation or have relatives who lived under Soviet communist control, whether in Poland, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, the Baltic states or elsewhere in Central and Eastern Europe, will understand the significance of this. For decades, Western music faced censorship and restrictions under communism. You couldn't simply walk into a shop and buy the latest Metallica album. Fans often had to rely on bootleg recordings and pirated tapes. Many of those people craved the West, its culture, its music and the freedoms that people on the other side of the Iron Curtain took for granted. That's why, when Metallica and the other bands performed in Moscow that September, it was about so much more than music. Hundreds of thousands of people gathered to watch Western rock bands perform in the heart of the Soviet Union, although some estimates put the crowd at over a million. This was at a time when communism was finally crumbling. James Hetfield recalled that even Soviet soldiers and police simply let go and joined in with the crowd, headbanging to the music. Less than three months later, the Soviet Union would collapse. That concert became a powerful symbol of the end of a dark chapter in history. And most importantly, and this will really annoy all the right people, no political statements were made by the bands. No preaching, no telling people what to think. As James Hetfield recently said, the audience came to escape reality. And as for any of the material performed by the bands being political in nature, well, they simply played their songs and let the music do the talking instead of preaching to the audience.

This is absolutely fascinating. In 1977, a 109 year old woman born in 1868 is interviewed about her life. When asked whether she has ever been on an airplane, she says never, but that she might now because she is “more venturesome.” When asked about the biggest change she has seen, she replies: “Everything. Nothing is the same.” Living from the horse and buggy days to the jet age in one lifetime. I also love the way she commands the English language. It feels like an art form that has been lost over time.

Marco Rubio continues to demonstrate just how level headed, well informed and grounded in common sense he is as Secretary of State. In my view, his delivery is far more direct and honest than that of JD Vance. I have no idea what the 2028 ticket will ultimately look like, but at this point I would be far more inclined to support Rubio running for president, with someone like Tulsi Gabbard as his vice president, rather than a Vance ticket with Rubio relegated to the VP role.

One of the actors from I Swear, a film about the life of Tourette’s sufferer John Davidson, has come out in support of him following the BAFTAs controversy. The film is based on Davidson’s life, and he also appears in it. At the ceremony, Davidson was heard shouting several profanities, including a derogatory term aimed at Black people, as a result of his condition. His co-star stressed that Tourette’s is a neurological disorder people have no control over and that John had every right to attend the BAFTAs.

This is by far the best video I have come across that explains, in the most simplest way possible, the ignorance and hypocrisy of those determined to condemn Israel’s actions without any understanding of what is truly happening. Before anyone claims it’s “all lies”, every point in this video, such as the firing of rockets from atop buildings housing schools and hospitals or the theft and resale of aid, has been thoroughly documented and proven multiple times.
