Today I visited Cape Coast Castle. Seeing the horrific conditions that thousands of people were kept in, it is impossible not to feel the weight of the immense evil that drove the transatlantic slave trade. I pray not only in lament for the Church’s involvement in the slave trade, but also for hope - hope that the God of healing can bring justice and reconciliation to all who are still impacted by its legacy. In the name of Jesus Christ, who came to set people free, I pray that we have the courage to continue our journey of repentance, and to strive for a world in which all of God's children are treated with dignity.

On the last day of our pilgrimage in the Holy Land, praying with Patriarch Theophilos III and Archbishop Hosam in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre was the most profound gift. Jerusalem is the city from which the Gospel first went out into the world, and to which our Lord will one day return. The Churches of this holy city are custodians of a living Christian presence in the very place where the foundations of our faith were laid. My prayer is that, by God’s grace, we may continue to grow together into that unity for which Christ prayed. That we may bear witness together to the hope of the Gospel. And that we may offer to this city, to the Holy Land, and to the world, a foretaste of the peace of God’s coming Kingdom. Please pray for the peace of Jerusalem, and for the Christians of the Holy Land.

I have arrived in Cameroon. I come as pastor and shepherd to be alongside the Anglican faithful, and assure them they are not forgotten. I bring with me the prayers of our global Anglican family. I look forward to being alongside our beloved brothers and sisters in the Diocese of Cameroon - to accompany them, encourage them, and hear about their lives in this land. “In a time of terrible conflicts around the world, and so much suffering here in Cameroon, I come with the message of the Gospel. This is always a message of peace. It is always about the infinite value of every person made in God’s image. And it is always about the hope we have in Christ - who rose from the dead to bring us new life. I invite Anglicans around the world to pray for the Church here and for the people of Cameroon. May these coming days be a blessing and encouragement to us all - and renew our commitment to be bearers of the good news we have in Jesus Christ.

I wish all Muslims peace and joy as they enter this season of Ramadan: this special time of prayer, fasting and spiritual reflection. I give thanks for the great contribution of Muslims to our society, and for their great hospitality and welcome. I pray that this Ramadan is a time of renewal, and that we may continue to strengthen our bonds of friendship and work together for peace and justice.

Jesus calls us to welcome the stranger. I urge the Government to reconsider much of the Illegal Migration Bill which fails to live up to our history, our moral responsibility and our political & international interests. My House of Lords speech today:

Today we visited Ste Thérèse on the outskirts of Yaoundé. In this rural parish, the Church is living out the Gospel in practical ways. Through agricultural initiatives and community projects, the Church is helping people make the most of the resources around them - creating opportunities for families and helping the village to flourish. It was wonderful to spend some time with the community, and pray together for God’s blessing on this land.

A profound service of Confirmation of Election today, it reflected the diversity of the Anglican Communion and the Church of England. Receiving my charge felt like an affirmation of God’s calling: to give confidence in the Gospel and to the Church throughout my ministry.

Almost two years have passed since the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. I have come here to stand with our Ukrainian sisters and brothers; to pray with and for them, to learn from them and to say loud and clear that, amid all that is going on in other places, the world will not forget Ukraine.

It’s been a wonderful Sunday in Accra - across six churches we sang God’s praises and prayed in the name of Jesus! Thank you Archbishop Cyril and everyone in the Diocese of Accra for such a warm and generous welcome. Thanks also to the female priests who led Mass at St Joseph Anglican Church - what a privilege to worship with you and the whole congregation. Your faithfulness and joy in the Gospel are a blessing to the whole Church. So many people told me today: “You have come home.” They were right - we are one family, united by the love of Christ. It was very good to visit the Biaka Foundation in Buea, Cameroon, today. The Biaka Foundation continues the legacy of Dr Lawrence Biaka through its hospital, university and community outreach. They provide healthcare, training and practical support to communities across Cameroon, including those in rural and underserved areas. It was inspiring to see Christian faith expressed in such practical ways. Caring for the sick, supporting families and serving those most in need. I give thanks to God for the compassion, dedication and hope I saw today.

It was very good to spend time with His Excellency Archbishop Miguel Maury Buendía, Apostolic Nuncio to Great Britain last week. Ahead of my meeting with His Holiness Pope Leo XIV later this month, I met with Archbishop Miguel Maury Buendía at Lambeth Palace. We discussed the forthcoming visit to Rome, developments in Anglican–Roman Catholic dialogue, the joint bishops’ meeting, the wider relationship between our Churches, and my forthcoming visit to the Anglican Communion in West Africa.
