Arvada Police Officers received a call of a “person trying to jump off the bridge” at a parking garage at 5575 Vance St. Officers found a woman sitting on the bridge on the west side of the garage. The woman was suffering a mental crisis and was approximately 30 to 40 feet above the roadway below. Officers, alongside co-responders, tried to de-escalate the situation. Officers would use facial recognition to learn the woman’s name to gain a better rapport. Time was utilized to develop a rescue plan and grab the woman from the bridge before she jumped or slipped. The woman was not injured and was transported to a local hospital. Thank you to our partners at the Arvada Fire Department. Arvada Fire

APD received a REDDI report (Report Every Drunk Driver Immediately) of a person in the drive-through of Mcdonald's at 52nd and Wadsworth on Friday, March 21, at approximately am. The driver was reported to be intoxicated and disoriented. Officers would later learn that the suspect was driving a car stolen from his neighbor. Officers responded to the area and located the suspect vehicle, which was driving out onto southbound Wadsworth. They activated their emergency lights, and the vehicle eventually stopped in the middle of the highway. While conducting the DUI investigation, the suspect was asked to walk out of traffic to the west curb line. Once on the sidewalk, the officer wanted to conduct roadside sobriety maneuvers. The suspect decided to flee on foot across the highway instead to evade arrest. The suspect was captured, uninjured, and taken to the Jefferson County Jail on the following charges: Motor Vehicle Theft, DUI, Obstructing Police, Driving While License is Under Restraint, No Proof of Insurance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and many other traffic-related charges.
