Ignore the subtitles, but most fans who played both versions spotted the difference in 2B's characterization. It's not so much about what her goal is and how she has to keep her distance from 9S because of her designation, but this sidequest in particular butchered her personality the most. Some fans want the layers a character can offer, and with 2B it is especially great when you listen to her in the recitals because her real self shines the most there. So seeing this change feels jarring because it is unnecessary. Her whole dynamic with 9S feels different and way colder than what it is originally. The anime in particular is also great at showing 2B's caring but awkward personality and her grievances, and when it came out, too many western fans commented on how much the anime "waifufied" 2B, when the original 2B is just like that. The disconnect is absurd.

For the record: 2P is not "black" either. Her model has dark skin and white clothes, and she's meant to be a 2B recolor (A mock machine, after all) because she was created (by machines) using 2B's damaged data. She's not representing any specific "race". She's basically the result of the machines trying to copy 2B.
