This is "Professional" racing in Australia The term 'professionals' harks back to the day when there was segregation between professionals and 'amateurs'. The first professional winners from the Stawell Gift, the most famous and oldest of the pro-running events, ran a major amateur event in 1986 (Commonwealth Games). At Stawell, as well as prize money ($40,000 for the Gift), you get grass tracks, handicaps, and coloured bibs (depending on your handicap) ... for the spectator there's on course betting. WOW Bree Rizzo wins the Women's Stawell Gift from scratch, something only one other woman has done (Melissa Breen 2012) Rizzo runs 13.521 for the 120m on a wet, grass track, which equates to a 11.27 time for 100m - Rizzo's PB is 11.23 - so definitely up there with the fastest she's ever run From sand to track to grass ... you'd have to say Bree Rizzo is up there as one of the greatest all-surfaces sprinters Australia has ever had 📷 7 Sport
