Test campaign for the sole "Jaguar M" aircraft deployed on the aircraft carrier "Clemenceau". This naval version, developed exclusively in France (the Jaguar being a Franco-British design) was nevertheless cancelled in early 1973, as it was deemed to lack sufficient engine power.

After WW2, the French Air Force was keen to acquire modern fighter aircraft as quickly as possible; whilst waiting for French manufacturers to be able to offer a good aircraft, an agreement was reached with the UK to produce Vampire under licence. This series was named ‘Mistral’.
