“We are simply existing,” says Adam Abkar Adam, a refugee living in Adré, a camp along the border of Chad and Sudan. “Unable to provide anything for our families. It feels as though we are prisoners, only indirectly.” Feeling trapped and helpless to support his family, Adam remains determined to take the treacherous journey from Adré to Libya and then finally cross the Mediterranean Sea to Europe. Many Sudanese refugees share similar plans to Adam, desperate to leave Adré Camp. “The camps themselves are pushing people to leave,” explains Dar al-Salam Issa, the Head of Women’s Affairs within the camp. “They deprive us of freedom and dignity. Children, young people, women and older people have begun leaving in search of a better life only to face death along the way,” she added. #KeepEyesOnSudan

While the role of gold in financing Sudan's war has been well documented, there is another resource—"the golden tears of Africa," or gum arabic—that has played a key role in fuelling the ongoing conflict. Sudan controls roughly 70-80% of the world's supply of gum arabic, a resource found in soft drinks, pharmaceuticals, certain foods, cosmetics, etc. The Rapid Support Forces currently control approximately 80% of the gum arabic trade, frequently smuggling it out of the country. 🚨 Please see the Ayin Network's exclusive footage inside El Obeid. The Rapid Support Forces' current siege of El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State, has been, unlike earlier attacks, strategic and methodical. Drones first targeted fuel stations and then electrical generators, effectively making life unbearable for civilians and driving them to evacuate the city. El Obeid has a population of roughly half a million, including between 100,000 and 200,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) who have already fled violence in other parts of Sudan. "In our assessment, the apparent objective of these attacks is to undermine the basic services that civilians depend on in their daily lives," one El Obied resident told Ayin. #Sudan, #KeepEyesOnSudan

النسخة العربية أدناه 👇 Escaping El Fasher: A survivor’s tale Hayat Yaqoub Hussein, a survivor of the El Fasher battles, tells Ayin about the first moments of the attack by the Rapid Support Forces on El Fasher after arriving with dozens of displaced people in the Tawila area. It was another morning in restive El Fasher where Hayat was preparing tea for her family when the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) raided their neighbourhood. Hayat and her family were accustomed to the siege on the capital city of El Fasher that lasted over 16 months, where shelling around their home took place on a daily basis. But Hayat and her family were not prepared for the RSF raid. "When I tried to leave the trench to see what was happening, I saw a number of Rapid Support Forces. They broke through the house's courtyard and entered in combat vehicles mounted with 23-calibre machine guns. At that point, I told my children, 'Get up and let's get out of here. These people don't belong to the army,'" Hayat says. "My 18-year-old son was killed after being hit by a mortar shell. I left his body, as well as my injured husband, of whom I now know nothing." From there Hayat and her children started the arduous journey to Tawila, where dead bodies from past attacks, along with the present, littered the streets. "حياة" التي كانت تعد "شاي الصباح" لأطفالها قبل أن تدخل معهم إلى الخندق المحفور داخل بيتها لحمايتها وعائلتها كحال أهل المدينة التي ظلت محاصرة لأكثر من 16 شهرا. تفاجأت بأصوات أسلحة مختلفة. "عندما حاولت الخروج من الخندق لمعاينة الأمر، رأيت أعداداً من قوات الدعم السريع، كسروا حوش المنزل وادخلوا سيارات قتالية تحمل مدافع 23.. حينها قلت لأطفالي قوموا لنخرج من هنا هؤلاء لا ينتمون للجيش". تقول حياة. وتتابع: "قُتل ولدي الذي يبلغ من العمر 18 عاما، بعد أن أصابته قذيفة دانة، تركت جثته وكذلك زوجي المصاب الذي لا أعرف عنه شيئا الآن". وتقول: "في مشوار خروجنا من الفاشر، رأيت عدد كبيراً من القتلى".

The Berlin Conference on Sudan kicked off today and will last for just one day, amid wide debate and disagreement among Sudanese over its importance and participation. According to spokesperson Bakri Eljack, the conference is not intended to negotiate a ceasefire, but rather to keep Sudan on the international agenda, mobilize humanitarian support, and provide a platform for civilian voices not involved in the fighting. Despite limited expectations and the complexity of the situation, the conference remains an important step that could help refocus global attention on one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises. #KeepEyesOnSudan

After the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on March 24 claimed control of the border town of Kurmuk, Blue Nile State, an ongoing flow of civilians fled the area. According to the UN, over 10,000 residents fled the town with 3/4 of those heading towards displacement camps in the state capital, Damazin. In one of the deadliest attacks since the war began 7 months ago, conservative estimates cite 800 deaths in the Ardamata area in early November after the Rapid Support Forces took over the military command. UAE senior government links to Colombian mercenary support to the RSF A new investigation by The Sentry reveals direct links between senior UAE officials and Colombian mercenaries fighting alongside the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan. Documents show that UAE Presidential Court Secretary-General Ahmed Al Humairi and businessman Mohamed Hamdan Alzaabi supplied hundreds of Colombian fighters through their firm Global Security Services Group (GSSG). These mercenaries were reportedly trained in drone warfare in Abu Dhabi and deployed to Sudan via a UAE-controlled base in Somalia.
