Masih Alinejad 🏳️, a notable #Iranian human rights defender, has posted a video statement to nine million Instagram followers in which she reads from a letter by the jailed Iranian #Bahai woman Mahvash Sabet and adds her own call for unity in diversity in Iran. Masih Alinejad points to the persecution of all Iranian Baha’is and says they are targeted for staying true to their beliefs. But instead of encouraging Baha’is to hide their identities to avoid persecution, she says: “Let us learn from them, to stand firm, and also speak about our own true identity and beliefs.” Watch her full video.

BREAKING NEWS: Nineteen #Bahai citizens arrested in #Iran. Armed agents raided the homes of 20 Baha'is in the city of Hamadan, arresting 10, and detained another 9 Baha’is in Karaj, taking a total of 19 into custody. The homes of two elderly Baha’i women in Hamadan—one of them suffering from several illnesses—were also searched. Akhtar Naiemi is 85 years old and Pouran Khandel is 80: their husbands were among more than 200 Baha’is executed after the 1979 Islamic Revolution. The Baha’i International Community is tracking this developing situation with grave concern. Iran’s government must release all detained Baha’is. Arresting innocent people, especially the ailing and elderly, is inhumane and illegal under international law.

His arrest added to a new wave of persecution against the Baha’is in Iran in recent weeks, with over 180 incidents of persecution against the community, including over 60 arrests and imprisonments. The cruelty meted out to the Baha’is in Iran has no limits.
