I drove 500 miles to Los Angeles to rescue a German Shepherd who was red listed for euthanasia. The shelter told me he was adoptable. They approved it. They walked the dog out to me. I was filming. We were about to load him into the van. Then I was stopped. They pulled me aside and said “there was a mistake.” A clerical error. Someone entered his behavioral score wrong in the system, which is why he was ever listed as adoptable in the first place. Once they realized their mistake, they reversed the adoption. And now, because they corrected their paperwork, they’re going to kill him anyway. I work with difficult dogs all the time. This dog is not aggressive. He’s terrified, stressed, and stuck in a concrete nightmare. Call Sergeant Vega at 562-658-2085 and ask why dog A5745484 is being euthanized because of a data entry error. This is what “process over life” looks like. This is what bureaucracy does when no one pushes back.

Yesterday evening we loaded 30 of the Ridglan Farms beagles into the DogeVan and transported them to Big Dog Ranch Rescue’s Alabama location. Dogs that were once destined for research labs are now getting their first taste of freedom. Enjoy the good life, pups… you’ve earned it.

Sherman is doing really well on the trip. New places, new routines, big changes, and he’s handling it exactly how a good dog should. One of the most important things with dogs like Sherman is decompression. Not rushing introductions. Not forcing stimulation. Just space, sniffing, quiet time, and letting them settle into their new world at their own pace. When you give a dog time to decompress, you don’t just avoid problems… you set them up to succeed.

Sherman’s progress has been incredible, and it hasn’t even been 48 hours. A little routine, lots of sniffing, calm exploration, and time to just be a dog has gone a long way. He’s checking in, asking for affection, showing solid recall, and even loading into his kennel on his own. I’ve also been taking my time on the road. New sights, smells, steady movement, and structure can be incredibly settling for dogs navigating big life changes. When you slow things down, dogs show you who they really are.

I’m currently in Texas, and will drive down to Houston to pick this sweet girl up if we can find her an adopter or foster. I will also provide free transportation to her new home. Rain is set to be euthanized today. She is 1 year old Dog friendly Her eyes will require medical, but the medical cost is covered. Please send a DM if you can help

Glad to hear the Trump administration has created a federal task force to crack down on animal cruelty… including dog fighting and abusive puppy mills. They can start by focusing on shutting down the puppy mills throughout the Midwest and making sure USDA inspectors are actually doing their jobs instead of looking the other way. This is a video of a Shiba Inu I rescued last year from an Amish puppy mill. There’s no world where an inspector saw this dog and thought he was being properly cared for.
